Next logical step....as 70's car become too expensive, we move on to the 80s.
Consider I sold my based model 6 cylinder XY Falcon 500 for well over $30K it's no wonder. A similar condition XD or XE can be picked up for under $10K. In 10 years the XD's will also be $30K, then it'd be the 90's turn. You can get some cheap 70 stuff but it's thin on the ground and will take a lot of looking or be a rust bucket. |

I do some work for a building (not directly for shannons) that has a shannons auction warehouse in it. They often have some top notch 80's cars (all charging a premium mind you). Things like rs500s, Sierra sapphires, hdts, r30/31/32 gtrs, I saw a brock b8 (a yawn I know but it was in excellent shape) and various other creations from the 80's. They also always have some awesome classics. There's an amazing 68 roadrunner on display at the moment. I wish...

I just looked up some 80's cars on CarSales. There are some damn nice cars made in the 80s.
I know the BMW 8 Series was made 1989-1999, but they are getting harder to come by according to CarSales. I remember looking at the about 7 years ago and there was usually around 10 for sale at any given time. Now there are 3-4. |

XD 351 4 speed S-pack for me. After that they're all pretty uninspiring. I'll see you in the 90s when things pick up again

Unfortunately in the late 70's and 80's the 351 was a POS, big V8 economy with less power than most modern 4 cylinders.
Obviously alot of "untapped potential" but it wont be 100% legal to unleash it. I do like the XD XE though..302 ESPs can be had pretty cheap compared to XW or XY GS stuff. |

Yeah Stefan after I posted that I had a doh! moment so I retract my statement and go for a 302 XE auto with 351 internals even a Fairmont would be ok I like the shape still quicker than my 67 anyway.

G'day , I must be up with fashion trends too then...Just bought a really tidy little Honda Accord circa 1985...1.8 litre ET1 , five speed manual , manual choke , carby , nice cloth interior , etc etc...161, 000 genuine kays...
It's a little rocketship..revs like a madman now I've fixed a slight miss caused by a very worn cap and rotor and a brand new set of leads and plugs.. Bloody heck it's fun to drive a manual again , even having a ZF trannied FG XR6...They tell me the injected engine that came out about the same time was way better again..Cost me $1100 with four months rego still to go... Very fun to drive an 'old school' simple little car with no pretensions of grandeur...For 1980's Fords, my absolute favourite has to be the XE's..I had a 1984 Alloy head ll once and it was a great old barge. I had it five years , 4.1, carby , 4 speed manual , gold ....traded it on a Telstar Ghia... Cheers Rod... |

+1 on BMW's im a bit of a late convert to them but after getting a steer of a a couple now not 80's ones i can say yep great cars.

IMO the BMW range in the 1980s were tops.
E28 M535i & M5 E30 318is, 325is/M325i and E30 M3 E34 M535i & M5 E24 635/M6 E32 750i, 300hp in 1987, near supercar level of performance. Bar the E32, the values of everything above are going through the roof globally and there's a good reason for it. |

That makes me feel better about the XH I just bought as a project for my young fella. Looks like he'll be a trendsetter ,not 80's but definitely that look. It's likely to get a XR6 front or something custom and a NA Barra .

I have a friend through another forum, for whom cars peaked in the 80s. Though he was barely old enough to remember the 80's, he's still stuck there today. He just loves everything 80s. It's slightly sad, but he's nothing if not committed.

many years back I worked with a lucky, lucky, lucky bastard who owned one he got at a deceased estate auction somewhere up near Cairns, back in the mid 1980's. It was an XD S-Pack, bright yellow, Volante alloys, 351, four speed, 9 inch, loaded with all sorts of options. He hardly drove it as it was pretty low mileage being a one owner car and all original. Lost contact with him over the years so no idea if he still has it or not.

Got my licence in the late eighties ... the hot ticket was a late sixties to late seventies V8. Would spank anything from the 80s up to the introduction of VL turbo and injected V8s ... from my rose coloured recollection. Kind of put me off most the 80s stuff except XD/XD V8s.
(In rural Vic, Japanese performance cars were non-existent so they dont really come into my recollection of the 80s) |

I lived in Western Sydney in the 80's and jap performance cars (and I use that term lightly) were generally driven by men (and again I use that term lightly) wearing MC Hammer pants and perms or Prince or Boy George look alikes, occasionally by someone wearing one white glove and acting like they are African American even though they were not
