Default Missing plane - EgyptAir MS804

Sadly it looks like there has been another plane go 'missing' with 66 lives on board including 3 children.

Contact was lost 37,000 feet in the air over the Mediterranean Sea, about 2am local time. The flight was from Paris to Cairo.

No Australians on board, but extremely sad none the less.

Why?. Not really going to make a difference is it?. Start thinking like that and you'll never travel again. This stuff happends now and again unfortunately. You park your car in the garage and walk too?

You never get today back, i've been in some sketchy situations in my life overseas and i don't regret a single one. None of them have been involved on a plane, that's just a vehicle to get me to the fun places.

You've got more chance of dying in a car accident. Get out there and enjoy what the world has to offer, you won't regret it and if you die on a plane you will never know any different anyway.

Nah man!

You are seated, TV in front of you with all the entertainment you need 'on demand'. Served drinks almost any time you want at the push of a button buy generally attractive looking ladies.

Then the food comes along, no need to leave you seat to do the dishes. Then, to boot they give you several free items to take home like pillows, blankets, newspaper, magazines etc.

What's not to like???

First I heard, I thought it was either a catastrophic failure or a terrorist attack as the only two possibilities and it seems most experts seem to be of the same opinion.

It is strange though that no group has claimed it in a day or so.

Yeh nah, crap food, I can get my own drinks, TV sucks, and stuffed in like a sardines in the old can.
Sitting in one spot for more than 2h in a big thing that drops from the sky on a regular basis ain't my cup of tea.

I've been OS plenty, that's how I know I don't like plane travel.

Yeh I'd like to see a few more countries, however I'm also very happy traveling OZ my way, taking my little house with me, plus my dogs...

Not quite 800kmh, but enough to have the same impact. I notice the gory personal account details aren't included in the wiki page.

A nose dive under full power, the plane will hit the ground much faster than 800 kmh, they can break the sound-barrier.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacifi...es_Flight_1771

I'm sure everyone would have passed-out long before the impact.

I took a screen shot on my last flight....

That's just cruising...

Looked up the A320 - seems to have a maximum speed of 870km/h. Point that thing straight down and you will be breaking the sound barrier in no time at all.

From what I have read so far, I think the downing of this flight was caused by a relatively small charge that drastically disabled the plane for the few minutes it was able to send 'smoke in cabin' signals.

The possible footage of a burning plane shooting across the night sky shows it moving horizontally - meaning it was still relatively intact while burning.

If it happened in the early hours of the morning, most would be asleep. By the time people realised what was happening there would have been hardly any time to activate mobiles and send out final txt's..

Soon enough we will hear of a disgruntled employee wanting revenge, a 'religious' person trying to prove a point or footage of a bag at Paris that seems to 'accidentally' bypass security screening.

I would expect this if the flight was going the opposite direction, but not from Paris.

There were also 3 members of security on board? Would these people have been armed? Why so many for so few passengers?

Been away for a bit, but thought I'd chime in with a few observations:

1. NTF6, I don't blame you for your reaction. It is a natural one, given the way the media are portraying these events. It seems to me that since MH370 (and to a lesser extent, the QF32 mishap) and the incredible interest that mystery generated, the media are spending a lot more time focusing on large passenger occurrences than what they used to. And of course, they only portray the bad side of the industry.

If anyone really wants to get a grasp of just how safe air travel is these days, just check out this link and it will show you, as a snapshot, of just how many aircraft are in the air right now right around this world. And how many of those will be involved in incidents that result in injuries or even fatalities to the passengers? And multiply that number of planes out across a day, and then a week, and then a month to get a really good idea as to how many incidents occur on a monthly basis. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I think it works in this case. Whenever my daughter gets concerned about air ravel, I show her flightradar24 to put it all back in to perspective for her.

2. I'm amazed at how quickly some of these so called 'experts' have come out with theories with respect to what they think happened to MS804. The first rule of aviation incident (and really, that should apply for any incident) investigation, is not to go in with a predetermined outcome, as there is a good chance you will miss the real reasons.

The first giveaway, to me, that we aren't dealing with a bomb or explosive decompression issue is the debris field. History tells us that if an aircraft has broken apart in the sky, by the time the resultant debris impacts the ground, the debris is well spread, especially from cruising altitude. Given that very little wreckage has been found to date, it indicates that the aircraft impacted the surface largely intact.

We have recent occurrences where technical and/or operational issues have seen an aircraft impact the surface largely intact. Examples are AF447 over the Atlantic, Copa Airlines Flight 201 or Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501. In those instances, there were technical issues, combined with operational issues, which meant the aircraft ended up impacting the surface in a similar profile to MS804.

So, for my money, I would not be ruling out a technical issue at this point. It is way to early to do so, even with the supposed smoke in cockpit issue. To assume that this is some sort of deliberate attempt to bring down the aircraft is simply scaremongering, IMHO.

3. The real picture will come once the investigators start to piece together the information from the on-board maintenance systems, the two black boxes as well as any air traffic records.
