Default 66 Mustang brakes

Im helping a mate do a few mods on a pretty basic 66 Mustang. 289 auto

currently it has a small booster maybe 5" and single pot master Cylinder. the booster is stuffed at the moment I assume it would need a new diaphragm

But we were looking to replace it with a 7" booster and better Master cylinder.

I've seen a few kits at quite high prices or overseas needing shipment.

what can anybody suggest? is there one from a later model Falcon that would do the job?

cheers

Ask Matt from Race Brakes Sydney in the sponsors section of the forum.
He may be able to help.

Hi,
what is the brake configuration drum/Drum or Disc/Drum?
These are light cars - can easily use a manual setup.
If Disc/Drum i would change to a dual pot master cylinder for safety such as MC36440

https://www.amazon.com.au/Raybestos-.../dp/B000C71J92

That is what i did on my 65- I am quite happy with the braking . Slightly harder pedal .

cheers

Rob

Thanks Rob,
It has discs on the front and the rear drums now work, as the adjusters were slipping initially.
what booster are you running, Im conscious of not getting something that extends too far and touching the strut brace

Hi,
no booster- manual brakes.
Correct there is not alot of room to run a booster and a dual master cylinder though there are kits available from local mustang parts vendors.

I don’t have an early Falcon these days, so can’t look under the dash - it was similar dimensions to a Mustang - but what about a booster inside the cabin? I think RRS offered something like that.

How about a remote booster, I Know the VH44 was for drum brakes and the VH40 was for disk and drum

There are a few kits around with Boosters to fit under the bonnet, I was hoping to make it a bit easier to source by using Falcon parts a friend said they fitted an XW booster, but it seems the falcon have become just as scarce & expensive

Im looking at this, just need to confirm if its 7"
