Hi all,
My wife and I are looking to buy an EL Fairmont Ghia. Its got to be a V8 and its got to be navy blue and despite looking on every aussie auto sales web site for the past year we have only been able to find one car, and that had huge kays! Heritage green and silver seem to be the most popular V8 colours but we really want a navy blue one. Our dream add is the retired guy who bought one in 98 for the big trip around Oz with the van on the back, who has now done all that and has no need for his 70-100,000k pristine V8 Ghia that his Toyota Echo wont fulfil. We have seen some very low Km V8s but in all the wrong colours. My questions are thus: a) How many EL Ghias were made? b) How many of those were V8's? c) How many of those V8's were done in navy blue? or: Can anyone tell us where to look for the answers to the above questions? We have some good plans for the right car. High tech multipoint LPG, lowering, EL GT rims, dark tint, the biggest Italian folding fabric sun roof money can buy and our recently acquired "KHRUZN" number plates should make the baby capsule in the back look real good. Any knowledge would be appreciated. |

There were 475 EL Fairmont Ghia V8s. Even less EL Fairmont V8s at 222.
Ford don't have the colours on their database though. With the small amount that were produced, you'll be lucky to find the one you want in a short timeframe.

Less than 500 Ghia V8's? Ok then. When I do find one I'm going have "Limited Edition" written on the front quarter panels.

Hello again Walky. Yes mate, of the italian Webasto variety. Fully made ready for any competant body builder to drop in. Water drains thru tubes in the A and C pillars. Push button electric with ignition off auto close blah blah blah. The material is top spec. Merc, Saab, BM etc grade and it looks real good. Best of all the opening is a full 700mm wide and 900mm long when installed. My wife and I were on the verge of buying a Saab convertible when our little daughter arrived and since AU/BA roof lines are too curved to accommodate the roof, a nice EL Ghia is just what we need. 220+Kw upgraded V8 is just a bonus. ;)

I have a EL Ghia V8
I didn't know they were that rare. I just saw it in a car yard one day and I liked it.

By the sounds of it you are really keen to get one, you have been searching for ages and the odds are against you. I would just buy a nice example in whatever colour and give it a fresh new paint job in navy blue. Afterall you will be hacking the roof up anyway...

I didnt know they were that rare, I saw mine advertised on carsales and thought it sounded cool that it was a v8 and had leather etc - so I went to look at it and grabbed it.
Has an amazing purple side to the paint in certain lights..

Yeah, painting is an option for sure, but I've always hated the idea of a colour change due to all the bits that can't be resprayed unless a major amount of labour is expended, (or paid for), such as the engine bay. The sunroof installation will, I hope not be too much of a problem. They reckon they can plasma cut the panel out and TIG stitch the sunroof in. Then either a file finish and matching paint job about 2" wide arond the roof or a bonded weather strip around it with just a bit of rustproofing underneath.

Yeah! Got one! 5 litre navy blue Ghia with only 105,000km. In excellant condition for $9000. Took a year but its been worth the wait. Booked in for Parnell SVI LPG kit (although we do have to wait till Jan 29th to have it fitted) and with the Government rebate we consider the car to only owe us $7000
Webasto Hollandia 400 sunroof, EL GT copies with maybe 265/225 Firestones, a couple inches out of the ride height with rolled guards just to be sure and a suitable rotor/ caliper upgrade for excellant looks as well as performance and we will be ready to sitback and consider the possibilities of a higher performance motor, box and diff. And this only one week after riding back home from Adelaide on our newly acquired navy blue Suzuki SV1000S. I am having a very good month!! |
