I have a car on Carsales and I got this after I returned her first email. Does it look like a scam? Why? The bells rang when she asked for my paypal email. Smells like, looks like?
Thanks for the swift response, just to let you know that i am okay with the condition and price, i am ready for it outright purchase and am willing to add an extra $100 to the asking price to secure the purchase as i am very satisfied with what i have seen in the pictures which they say is worth a thousand words Payment will be made using PayPal (i've stopped using online banking -long story) but my bank account has been linked to paypal so payment comes straight from my bank account.Paypal also protects you from exposing your bank account online unnecessarily as all i require for the payment to be made is the email you used when signing up. I'll be responsible for the pick-up at your location via a pick up company and it will be scheduled after the payment has been made. let me have your PayPal email as soon as possible and if you do not have then quickly sign up at www.paypal.com.au and do not forget the final price you want to sell it including the extra $100.00,i would have called but i am hearing impaired. I would have really loved to come for the viewing and pay in person by cash but due to the nature of my work, that is not possible, i am an anthropologist and as you are aware, Its a non-stop traveling in this profession and i am currently away for the next 39days, this is why i use the service of a professional pick up agent which i trusted and i could have also waited till i am back but i am giving it to someone who really needs it and must get it within the next 7DAYS! Many Thanks. Thanks for anyones input.

Tell em that you are happy to deliver it on day 40 with a $100 discount.
Yep, scam. Seriously, is there any way to beat these guys at their own game, like open a PayPal account linked to another new account with 50c balance then accept payment and close everything the following day? Takes 5 days to clear funds... Bugger. How is this loophole still available to these mongrels.... Beggars belief.

Regardless of any of the other many red flags, this one alone would have me never contact them further. Or reply saying that you won't deal with 3rd parties and they will need to come and test drive and pick the car up in person. |

This is a scam, but they are not after the car.
What they are after is your Money around about $1000 in most cases. What they will do is say, that they cannot pay for the transport and could you put $1000 into a Western Union transfer, so they can arrange the transport. They will add this to the total price that will go into your PayPal account. The person will then send the $1000 to the scammer and the scammer will never be heard of again. Western Union cannot be traced. Basically all these scams they will not want the car, the reason being, it is not fast cash and too hard to make money. The reason why people get scammed with these things is because people think the scammers are after the car, not money. |

scam - The alarm bells that were set off.
Anyone that 'works away' (Ive had the off shore oil platform worker a few times) Buying the car as a gift for someone who desperately needs it Won't contact you via phone, only email Accepting paypal for any large amount of money is a bad idea 3rd party pickup/delivery companies Adding extra money to the purchase price As well as the poorly structured English

I've had the same thing, with a car and a sewing machine my Wife was selling.
The only difference was, the "interest" was from an Oceanographer????? who claimed they couldn't use internet banking whilst at sea. ( they were still able to use email???) Fortunately we "smelled a rat" very early in the piece. My Wife googled the person's name that was being used, dozens of results all on the same thing. Unfortunately some people had been stung. Definitely a common thing. |

I work on an oil rig and would like to purchase your car. I am willing to pay an extra $1000 for it to secure the purchase. Can you please provide me with your name, address and bank account details so I can provide payment.

At what point is the buyers money moved? Perhaps they request what you say after they have paid via PayPal, then use the 5 days for you to pay for the transport, then take the money from Western Union, then raise a claim for a refund and get it all back plus the 'transport' money.

Woohho got a live 1 , usual story , want`s to pay bit more etc . I said `money talks` etc ( asked me to pull the adds coz he waz keen blah blah blah , picked it straight away , this was his last email.
I won't be able to come over with cash or mail a cheque because presently, i'm working away in Darwin on a research project but i have equally arranged the courier agent that will come for the pick up, transfer of ownership but this will be after i have made payment to you. Kindly send me your bank details as i'm ready to transfer the money into your bank account. Kind Regards, John. Now my question is,, I wanna have some fun and drag this out as long as I can Ideas (carsguide btw)

I'm in Darwin - I'm happy for him to come and pay me on your behalf
He gives me the cash - i put it in your bank - his agent picks the car up. I'll bet if you offer that he turns out to be based in Darwin but out in the bush at the moment, or on a mine site, or an oil rig........

The link in the e-mail is not genuine. You put your e-mail and password into it and they have both.

I don’t see a problem with this. Looks legitimate to me.
Just wondering, does anyone here have the phone number for the Nigerian president? I’m still waiting for the 15,000,000 USD to be deposited into my bank account and I think he may have lost my details after my bank account was cleaned out. Any help is appreciated.
