Default Maybe I'm getting old...

...I can't find the answers to these:

If I bought a TC Cortina station wagon, how many parts from it could I use on my TC sedan?

Door cards? Tail lights? Bonnet?

Also, the station wagon is a 6cyl. Would any of the running gear bolt straight into my 4cyl (2 litre)? Diff? Brakes? Suspension?

Bummer the old fordcortina.com.au site just shut down a week or two ago, the info would be on there but it'd been a ghost town for a while now.

No to the tail lights.
Front door cards yes, maybe the rears, the rear doors are different but I think its just the top frame and glass.
Bonnet yes.
Suspension and diff shouldn't be an issue.
Engine wise I think there was some firewall differences between 4 & 6cyl but I could be wrong and that might be the TD. I'm getting old aswell

Google images may be worth a try for comparisons or pm me and I'll take some shots of any areas of doubt for you from my 6cyl TD.

I noticed that the Cortina Website has gone also.
Can I ask why? Is it due to lack of interest to keep maintaining it or a cost thing or both?
I was using it as a good point of refference for my Cortina Project.

Could be that like some other old car forums I was on those running them have got too old to maintain them, have decided they should spent more of their remaining time with their grandchildren and other family or have simply passed away. The sad truth is that old car forums are usually run by equally old people and nobody lives forever.
Some would probably say "old bangers and old farts together pass away " or worse. Wait until EV's become mainstream and watch all these forums sadly vanish.

That'd be a pretty fair assessment I'd say.

fordcortina was a niche site and hadn't had a post since August last year. Much the same with the Mk1 Cortina site which was also pulled down recently. That was a blow, it had a bit of info on the GT500's which is hard to come by.

I guess the old saying 'Use it or loose it' still rings true

I am a forum member at Australian Mitsubishi Club for my wheels. Over the years traffic has slowed down somewhat. The only reason it continues is sponsorship from a niche repairer and parts supplier.

Otherwise, that forum would have gone by now, too.

I was in the Old Holden forum for EH Panel Van and that closed down forever last year despite still being very active. The had an associated Facebook page but that has never been and is still not very active. I was also in the Sigma-Galant Forum for my LC Lancer and that closed down too. There was a replacement Sigma-Galant Facebook Group at https://www.facebook.com/Sigma-Galan...16229095074584 that is still going but not that busy.

I see Machine Head asked the same question on the US Based Ford Forums site https://www.fordforums.com/threads/i...ng-old.312417/ where I am a super mod. That's still very active but it is interesting that how some of the there more active moderators there are/were also not based in North America (Scotland, NZ and Australia).

And of course Julian Edgar closed down his Autospeed Forums that I was once a member of last more than a year ago I think and went here to make more money on You Tube with mostly automotive aerodynamic videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK9...mNB9XEmuiCjxcQ

Brockcommodores dot com forums died a slow death too, its a shame as there's a wealth of knowledge on these old forums

Guys and Gals.

Happy to speak with Russ and try and make the Cortina area of this Forum more suitable to your needs and hopefully as a result, have more activity.

Appreciate that.

I don't really have any ideas on how it could be improved though, short on a membership drive on Cortina owners. Ideas anyone?

I think it maybe a case of us just using it a bit more, I'll have a look for some articles of interest of info to post over the weekend.
