hi guys
this has been covered a couple of times but i havent found enough info specifically.. can we get some basics down.. how strong as these motors are far as bolting on a turbo goes? ie a very conservative kit, 190-200rwkw goal? Assuming u have generals like turbo, cooler (if u ran one.. considering how cheap u can get them on ebay for, i wouldnt hesitate) piping e.t.c... is it hard to route the oil lines? the manifolds seem to settling nicely into the market now for a nice price. Whats the fuel systems limits, injectors fuel pump e.t.c? Stock inlet manifold looks fine for it, or no?

we need to make a big list of everything required to turbo a car.
but to answer your question... any sort of forced induction is going to reduce the engines life span, a stock engine can be good for anywhere between 150rwkw to 300rwkw, but it depends on the condition of the engine, how its treated, the tune etc. engines have died in this area so its a very hard question to answer. even a tired engine with 200rwkw is going to give up sooner or later. oil lines are easy, from oil pressure sender/switch to turbo then turbo to sump (tap sump hardest bit) plenty of manifolds are around to use, depending on budget etc you can usually find something to suit.fuel system is really only good for 170ish rwkw, start pushing beyond that and the fuel pressure gets too high, fuel pump is on its limitation now too. stock intake manifold is fine.

what in the fuel system goes first to limits at the 170rw? injectors, pump? how flexible is the factory ecu to use in this case? can u just get it rewritten to suit the combo for cheap or is it an expensive deal? Also another thing i didnt touch up on, how strong is the drivetrain in these models? afaik the diff is a borg warner which is basically same as a VLT diff which are pretty strong depending how u treat it... then theres the auto? i know its a flogged topic but i suppose if u make a nice thread for it, it gets a lot of answers out in the open

pretty much both the injectors and pump are at their limit at 170-180rwkw.
factory ECU can't really handle it, the only way it comes close is by using a rising rate fuel reg, but you'll never get a good tune on it. pretty much an expensive part, no cheap way out of the ECU :/ drive train : Diff is fine, shouldn't have any problems, the autos limited, a big trans cooler and shift kit is recommended but the trans is one of the weaker links. keep it very cool and it'll happily go for quite a while with sensible power put through it.

Many e-Series have made over 200rwkw on stock bottom ends, there is a guy running low 10's, stock bottom end. Auto's can be tricked, and handle that power with a shift kit. There is an off the shelf chip for Turbo e - series, that was tuned with the use of a rising rate regulator and booster pump. Basically with the rate of the regulators used, once you go over 8 psi fuel pressure is near 100psi, which is very high, and this reduces the flow of a pump proportionaly. Eg if a Bosch 044 flows 750 hp @75psi, it will only flow 500hp@100psi. Pressures over 90-100psi are not recommended by most Turbo specialists, ONE LEAKING INJECTOR SEAL WOULD RESULT IN ONE HELL OF A FIRE. |
