Default Identifying a MB TDCI powershift model

Hello all,

I have found this forum very informative while researching my next car, which is likely to be a diesel titanium. Many thanks to those posters.

I have started making calls to a couple of car yards to enquire about the MB titanium tdci powershift, which has caused a little confusion. One yard told me that there is no such release, and that I must be referring to the MC model due out later in the year. Another that I went to showed me a zetec tdci powershift model for comparison.

This raises the question, how is one to identify the powershift in a MB? Media on the ford website shows powershift written on the stick itself, can anyone confirm that this is true? The one I was shown had no such markings.

I would have a hard time to make a purchase based on the promise from a sales person alone that it contains the new transmissionm, after some of the information I am receiving.

I am likely to wait for the MC model, but wanted to see if I could get the price down on one of these late model MBs.

Thanks in advance.

There must be something on the compliance plate.

Have a look on the Euro site http://www.talkford.com/forum/96-mondeo-mk4-2007-20/ and see if they can identify it.

Like you, I wouldn't believe the sales people, and I know that Pacific Ford on the sponsor section (http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11310491) had some demos for sale, and they were marked as dual shift autos, so they must be out there.

Maybe ask Pactific Ford the question on the site and see what they say.

I was under the impression that the new tranny was part of the MC upgrade?

I have just purchased a 2010 MB Titanium TDi Wagon Powershiift.
From what I was able to gather, the TDCi Titanium wagon which came out mid 2010 was fitted with the Powershift transmission and the MC hatch would receive this on diesel models when it arrives. I could not identify that the MB hatch TDCi had this transmission fitted.
I must say that this transmission is silky smoooth and works a treat so far..

Hello all,

We have had a MB TDCi Titanium hatch that is fitted with the Powershift tranny and has the tweaked higher output engine. The dealer told us it can be identified internally by a slightly different dash surround? Not sure of this.

It is a ripper car, got it in October and have already travelled 9500k averaging 7.1l/100k with a mix of city and highway driving.

Very happy with the car as a whole. One small issue with fuel spilling that I will post in the thread "Diesel Leaks".

Steve.

Very interesting thanks, I will check the runout Mondeos in NZ. Late last year Ford NZ started selling the Fiesta with the 1.6 engine and Powershift, but never advertised the change from the 1.4 4-speed auto.

Default Powershift Identifier

I/ve had mine MB Titanium Diesel Wagon since Sep and it is the Powershift Tranny, but it does not have ""Powershift"" written on the gear lever. I think they called it MB Mondeo MY 2011, all very confusing.
Still very happy with the car, Consumptionis around 6.4 l/100km in Sydney and the Blue Mountains and its due for its 30 k Service soon.
Highly recommended car

If you don't have what's in this picture you may not have Powershift

Our car does not have the powershift logo on the shifter but it definitely has a powershift transmission.

no, havent got the little logo, but then again I dont have the Titanium Badge either on the back! got the TDCI instead, but one's been ordered from the UK.

According to the Catalogue and Ford Website, only the Titanium Diesel came standard with Powershift Tranny optional on Zetec in MB guise.

Why no logo on Gearlever, go figure,,,

I"m 100% sure its the Powershift, because every now and then fro a full stop it has this hesitation for a few seconds before anything happens, like it wants to make sure I really want to go now! All DSG"s display this habit apparently.

When I rang Ford to confirm this they said there is a change over period when the MB came out between the existing 6 speed and the Powershift replacement. So he said for people to tell they placed the PowerShift logo on the gear stick, now I'm starting to think if what he said is true

God, now I'm starting to get confused. I was under the impression that there was no Titanium Diesel Wagon until the one with the Powershift. There was only a Titanium Diesel Hatch with the regular Auto, and then when the Wagon was added with the MY 11 upgrade the Diesel came with the Powershift tranny by default....................I think

I've seen the MC with powershift (and driven one) and it doesn't say 'Powershift' on the gear selector. Maybe this is just MC?

Is there be a code on the compliance plate or somewhere else that says it's a powershift?

the compliance plate shows a series of reference letters/numbers down the lhs, maybe one of these codes is to indicate the transmission type

I know the UK models have a plate in the engine bay with similar information

at least with the XR5 we know what gearbox we got

Don't be too stressed, if you got the MB MY11 Titanium TDCi you will have got the powershift. The salesman showed us the order and delivery documents for our car that showed the different gearbox code for ours with the Powershift.

When the car gets home tomorrow I will get the transmission code off the compliance plate and we can then check that with other vehicles.

I checked the compliance plate and could not decipher any codes that could indicate the transmission type.

However when I checked the warranty and service guide book it shows that vehicles manufactured after 08/02/2010 were fitted with the upgraded duratorq engine DW10C 120kW compared to the older DW10B 96kW.

To the best of my knowledge all vehicles that were fitted with the DW10C were designated by some to be MB MY11 and the auto fitted was the Powershift transmission 6DCT450.

I have two seperate stickers on my car, one that specifies a build date of April 2010 and one that has an Aussie compliance date of July 2010. As stated my car definitely has the DW10C and the Powershift 6DCT450.

So I would say that it is safe to assume that any car built after February 2010 and fitted with the TDCi would have the Powershift transmission. Redbook car guide confirms this by showing all MB MY11 diesels having the Powershift, but states that this change happened in June.

Finally I think that cars fitted with the Powershift tranny also have Hill launch assist, but I have not been able to absolutely confirm this.

So, do all of the Titanium MB's with Power shift come with diesel engines?

Yes, if you have a powershift you have a diesel engine, however the powershift is only fitted to the diesel engined vehicles manufactured after 08/02/2010.

The petrol engined model does not have the powershift tranny.

Any diesel produced before 08/02/2010 has the "standard" six speed auto as fitted to the petrol engined Mondeos..

You can put in the vin number on www.etis.ford.com to find out which transmission the car has. It's on the vehicle tab and you don't need to become a member to use it if you don't want.

What a cool site. I was able to search on my car (which I pick up in 4 days) and it told me everything about it. The interesting part is the Minor Features summary. If you expand the link it tells you everything you do and don't have on the car. I fount the items with "Less" to be the most interesting. It is clearly evident the Europe get the best this car has to offer while Ford Australia gives us a nice car, but one which does not compare to its Euro counterpart.

Budorat - I too plugged my VIn into the site, and agree it is really coll. But then your MC listing has some LESS items that are neither LESS nor appearing on my MB XR5 build sheet.

e.g. Less Family Entertainment System - ???
Less Blind Spot Information System - MC onwards
With Passengers Man Lumbar Support - MC onwards???
Less Rear Heated Seat (Empty plug under my rear seats)
With Kysor Radiator Shutter - MC onwards
Less Camera - MB option maybe

Interesting to see some of the differences across models. Thanks for providing me with hours and hours of fascinating reading (<grin>)....

I don't think the Mondeo had the Powershift in February 2010. The Powershift first appeared in the UK in May and was announced in Oz for Q3 2010.

Will be interesting to see when my new car was manufactured and which gearbox it has. The dealers here often have no clue what they're getting until it's unloaded. I was at a dealer a couple of months ago, and they had no idea that they were getting auto Fiestas with the 1.6 engine and Powershift until they rolled off the transporter!

NZ it's the same here. Ford didn't know the MB wagons came with roof rails until someone wanted the cross bars to match.

I just passed on what was written plain as day in my Warranty and Service book and that is that any car MANUFACTURED after the 8/2/2010 has the powershift fitted. If manufactured in Feburary they wouldn't land in OZ or NZ until then end of May or June depending on demand and supply (given they would have filled European orders first I doubt that many would have landed before the end of June). That would mean a Q3 delivery.

As far as I am concerned the Warranty and Service book is good enough proof for me, and I will take it as fact until otherwise proven wrong.

I hope what's written in your warranty book is true for NZ, as my new wagon should have the upgraded diesel and Powershift box. I'll run the VIN through ETIS when I get it.
