got a copy of the final release of vista ultimate (the top notch one), so i installed it, found it doesnt like my mobo driver disk, graphics card disk, network setup, isnt user friendly
and most of all if you dont like seeing "Are you sure...." every time you right click or do something, then windows vista isnt for you. i tried installing some software and deleting useless crap, EVERYTHING was "how would you like to use this....", "you dont have permission to do this click continue for permission", "you have....." so i hit reset, formatted and snapped the disk. the colours are nice, layout is an idea, functionality is like learning to drive a car with the indicator on the left hand side, reverse in the top left, front wheel drive with no power..... ill install on another partition tomorrow and take screen shots, and examples (i have another copy of the disk) im just gonna let everyone know what their getting into, so it might help if buying a laptop or PC and waiting for the vista models to come out instead of buying XP installed, getting free upgrade and having option of either if you dont like vista. then again if i used it long enough it prob never go back to XP ever again.... who knows btw vista and office isnt allowed to be sold until the 30th jan 2007.....

All of those prompts asking for permission etc can be EASILY turned off in User options in control panel with one click of the mouse...
I was a Vista & Office beta tester from the start...I now own Vista Ultimate and will NEVER go back to XP...ever...I love it...my laptop (Dell Inspiron 9400) run flawlessly with it...if anything, Vista is faster than XP, especially boot times and application open times...

LOL...real helpful...
care to elaborate on your seemingly knowledgable opinions? Why is it crap? You really have to laugh at these idiots who bag new MS products without knowing ANYTHING about them..just because its MS and new...it must be crap...

Ihave been waiting to get my final release installed, and the only thing holding me back is lack of drivers my from laptop manufacturer. They tell me it will be this week, so then I'll make time for the install. Quote:

when i had vista rc1 installed the only thing that didn't work was my nforce2 drivers for my sound card, but apart from that it worked fine.

to perform the work under the non winblows operating system vista was slightly slower than both the nix and the win2k installs , no advantage in doing so , I dont like the feel of it but will conceed its pretty , basically it is an un-needed upgrade and I feel along with the new office of no advantage . I still have a lot of customer machines running win2k and they were looking to use the same machines for a couple of simple tasks to which vista offers no advantage . Microsoft does have an upgrade at all costs metality along with a lot of thins in the o/s which never get used . but unless a gamer for typing a couple of letters and doing some homework win98 is sufficent and perfoms well on basic hardware . I will say it again , vista has no advantge for me atm , the good thing is I am seeing many client going to unix o/s due to it doing what they require without the expense of hardware upgrades , after all how many letters can you write at once ? |

I've been using it.
Drivers and everything are pretty much fine. One thing i've noticed is Ram is a shocker, I've got 1 gig and even thats pretty bad |

I suppose one of these days I might crack the new version of Vista and Office together, but only when I can afford it lol. I beta tested it, and I found it troublesome is some areas, but they were things that you get used to, and I just might have been impatient.
I will also wait a little longer, because a lot of the tings I enjoy probably aren't supported in Vista Yet. |

Yeah probably should have stated which version i was running.
I'm running ultimate, what are you running ORSM? On mine it uses about 500mb, which is a fair bit once you add on the things that i always use at once, Firefox, MSN, Itunes. And trying to play source on it is impossible |

Personally in an office environment the small difference between office 2003 and office 2007 make office 2007 a clear advantage to use. Vista I have not fully evaluated, but I can see advantages for a business to upgrade.
EG. Excel 2007 does 1048576 rows which is very handy for the data I have to deal with, no crappy 65,000 row issues. It is also only limited by installed ram fro creations of arrays.

It does take a little while to get used to. The thing to remeber is that Vista uses a new graphics engine. When developers start taking advantage of it then gamers (specifically) will adopt it. Another benefit is the MCE integration. Basically, I advise people to hang onto XP if they are comfortable with it but be prepared to install Vista in the future when applications and drivers are up to it. |

I had RC1(x64) on my desktop and had no problems with it apart from the lack of many 64x drivers. A few things didn't function, like the media centre thingy and some older games such as BFV wouldn't work properly. I managed to figure out a fix for nforce4 sound somehow but have forgotten now. After using vista and then using a XP machine, XP does look decidely fisher price.
As said previously, if you play games or anything else, you would do yourself a favour by buying more ram as when I had 1 gig, vista used something like 450mb. I wouldn't know how RC1 compares to the final version, perhaps scotty could tell me?

LOL Fisher Price....I like that one!
Yea, Vista RTM is still using around 450-550 MB RAM but compared to RC1, the performance is mind blowingly better...

if you have a cheap second rate PC don't complain that next-gen software doesn't work on your PC. It was the same when XP came out everyone was complaining that it ran too, slow on their old Pentium 166mhz PCs. What do you expect.
And once more people complained that the security in XP was hopeless, now that they implement security features people are complaining that its too annoying. you cant win with some people |

I recieved my final copy today and installed it about 2 hours ago, after a little setting up it works wonderfully, but i can see that a lot of people will have compatability and networking problems, but ive had it since beta 1 release and i love it.
