Default V8 Wagons- How common?

Hey guys, Im thinking about my next car at the moment.

It will be a wagon and used for towing the torana and other daily driving duties.

How common are V8 wagons? I see heaps and heaps of 6 cylinder ones.

How common are V8 manual wagons?

I see the 6 cylinder E series wagons are going for cheap as chips. How more expensive are the V8's?

I dont really care what it looks like as long as its clean. Im also tossing up whether to buy a cheap EA wagon for less than $2k and go a budget turbo setup and AU motor but that has me worried about drivetrain reliability. My EB trans overheated whenever it had a full car load. :(

Are there ghia spec wagons?

Opinions?

v8 wagons aren't that common at all really, i havn't seen that many around. probably better off getting a cheap ea 6cyl wagon. drivetrain an auto should be ok as long as its got trans cooler on it shouldnt it?... plus you can pick up autos fairly cheap if it does stuff up.

oh and i like turbo wagon idea.... very much :p

Bugger! An auto would be okay I suppose.

Ill keep a lookout for V8 wagons but I suspect it would be cheaper to turbo a cheap EB 6. Ill only need 180odd rwkw I imagine.

No cop in there right mind would inspect the engine bay of a stock looking wagon!

I bought mine over 2 years ago when I was in the hunt for a V8 wagon. I got it for $8500 with 140000km. Last year I put the 5 speed in it as you cant get manuals in V8s other than XR8s and my auto died. They are fairly rare but a few exist. I've seen in a town of 30000, 1 EB Ghia V8 and 2 other ED Fairmonts like mine. Easier to either turbo a I6 or put in a V8 and all the other goodies from a Fairlane.

Thanks guys, thats probably more than I'd like to pay considering the car will rarely be driven by myself.

I dont have a car at all now and get along fine. It will be a back up vehicle to take on long trips and for towing the torana when its finished to the drags.

A turbo EB wagon looks to be the go. I can probably do one for under $5k now.

I cannot recall his new user name since he bought the Phantom BA, but the user formerly known as ebghiawagon5litre had a nice rare series II EB from the factory. He kept it because the dealer didn't give him a decent trade in.

I remember the one trout.
I know of one Manual V8 EB Fairmont Ghia wagon.
This was a factory car, i nearly bought it when i was in Darwin.
the thing was a weapon.

at the time they wanted $22000(1998), and it had over 180000k's, mostly highway

in 1996 I needed a wagon
I was going to buy a EF XR6 wagon, but when i ordered in april, they had been deleated
So in the end i said, ok can i get a V8 Wagon?
I couldnt get a V8 manual wagon, so I opted for a V8 Fairmont Wagon, with sunroof, Tickford wheels and suspension in Heritage Green. Amonth after delivery, the EL was released, but my EF looked a lot better
I kept that till 2002 when i boughtthe TS50, had 180,000kms on it, never missed a beat.
Still see it around, it is so unique, very nice wagon, it now has 280,000kms on it, hasnt missed a beat.
Only problem ever was when towing with it, tranny wouldget warm, and warning light would come on. Fixed that with a larger Oil cooler.

theres a really clean ea ghia wagon around the corner for 2k at a car yard, i think 250,000kms on it, tinted windows on it too, looks great, if it was on gas or had a sunroof i would of bought it for my self. theres acouple of v8 wagons floating around adelaide, there was an ED Ghia wagon around the corner, full leather, fully colour coded, lowered, 17's and xr8 front end, looks sweeeeeeet.

personally i would look for a ea ghia or eb fairmont 6 and put a au motor and turbo in it, then upgrade the interior to nc interior.

I've been helping MightyEFGhia do the engine swap from 4 litre to 5 litre in the wagon. Its a pretty easy swap, just time consuming.
It was started up today. Went first go and is purring

I want to go offroad, not take the kids to soccer!!

It will more than likely be an early 90's patrol or landcruiser when the time comes, which is when the torana is done, which is a while away still :(

My old man had a White EL Fairmont wagon that was a V8.
It was such an awesome car, lowered, tinted a big exhaust. If i wasn't so young at the time , i would have bought it!!!
