Question White Paint Markings on Drag Tyres

Can anyone tell me why drag cars paint a white strip and white band on the sides of the tyres? I noticed at WSID that some top fuellers had it, but others didn't. Just curious to know what it's for :

PS I'm amazed by the shape the tyres get at the end of the strip, check the first pic out!

Helps to see what the tyres are doing when launching etc.

And if your not using beadlocks they are also good for checking if your slicks rotating around the rim, well the stripe does anyway.

It lets the crewmembers look for shake in the first 300 feet of the race track and to also see how quick the tyre gets "up" by seeing that you know if you have enough clutch in the car for the race track conditions. It's important to get the tyres up as quick as possible to get good ET's.

Cheers Craig

I also use it as it makes it easier to see if the tyre is spinning or slipping on launch

exactly right..by filming the car from the side...then going through it frame by frame later..you can tell how the tyre is working during the run.
