Default DEV 3HL - It wont rev hard.

Just installed a DEV 3HL kit to an AU and apparently we have to wait for the ECU to learn before it will rev out??? Is this normal???

Sounds like its not dialed in right. The ecu needs to learn but not that much.

Yep, have to use some advance on it, if you read the docco jim would have sent with the cam and springs, it should have a recommended degrees of advance written on it somewhere.

Mine revved fine even with half the lifters not working. It sounded like a Volkswagen, but it went hard.

Grant. You have to wait for the lifters to settle. If anything it should scream right away and come down a bit in a week. Also as Casper said it is not dialled right.Have you got a vernier gear? Where is any power happening?Low or midrange?

Mine didn't idle for a while but it sure reved from minute one.

Check your cam timing is correct.

The ECU won't learn anything at WOT anyway despite what you hear from all the experts.

All it learns is where full throttle is and thats mostly for the auto trans anyway.

We dialled it in as jim said, but I think we need to advance it. At the moment it feels torque down low but hard to say because it is really running like . Sounds heaps better when idling. It just flutters once you get above 4000 revs with or without load. Its asthough it isnt getting enough fuel. The mechanic said to see how it goes and he'll look at it on wednesday. I think the best option is to adjust the vernier according to the dyno readouts. They could even be a tooth out when they replaced the vernier gear, who knows. Thanks.

We have jmms air intake and extractors and cat.. Have noticed a crackling (electrical) noise when under acceleration on the front right hand side (or so it appears)............ What could this mean. It has new leads, new plugs. Could this be the problem?

if its smokey check for oil leaks onto extractors. Also make sure the cam timing chain has been retensioned and not overtightened or loose

"Fluttering above 4000rpm with or without load", could be anything really...

bad ignition leads
bad spark plugs
bad ignition coil
bad valve springs
bad MAP sensor

Extractors are on right-hand side and your description sounds like pinging.
