Default New way to mount your battery ;)

Since i got the gas tank installed, it has taken up quite a bit of my boot room, which means their is less room for all the audio gear i have to go in there. Problem # 1 is the two optima batteries which take up a fair bit of room and are awkward to find a spot for, and problem # 2 is they must also legally be externally vented to pass a roadworthy.

Solution?? They are going to be mounted underneath the car were the fuel tank used to be. Gave Vic roads a buzz and they say that aslong as there is enough ground clearance, that they are sheilded in some way and that they are properly secured, it will be fine. I will be looking into it a little further tho to be absolutely certain that it is legal, but from what i've heard so far, it's good to go

Can anyone see any problems with this kind of setup?? Anyone had any problems legally with doing something similar??

Well you would want to keep it as far away from exhaust as possible so they don't get too hot... and yeah enough clearance and properly mounted and shielded should be fine!

sounds like an awesome solution steve, nicely hidden away under the car, allows more room in the boot for the install

Only problem is that i will most likely be ditching the dual exhaust idea, but i've been thinking that for a while as i'd rather spend money elsewere....

It's more so i can play the stereo when the cars turned off eg drive ins. (plus i have 4 amps to run (with a 5th looking tempting :P))

The spare wheel well will be used as the sub enclosure....

(wheel well will, sounds funny when you repeat it to yourself :P)

That sounds like it would work well. Most trucks have there batterys mounted on a tray under the body so I don't see why a sedan couldn't.

ya beat me to it, exactly what i was gonna say! I don't see there being a problem, you'd just want to make the sheild so they don't get too wet I reckon.

Here's a pic of the room i have to play with...

For those that don't know, i should have mentioned that they are SEALED lead acid batteries, so they can be mounted on their side (which will allow more ground clearance).

Why not get a second spare wheel well and weld that in, the cut the floor space out, and weld a steel plate into the bottom of it, and put cover over the top of that.

I really havent cut that much metal in my car, 2 holes in the guards for the side repeaters, and a very minimal cut for the BA shifter to fit.

But I am not shy to pull out the angle grinder and jigsaw if needed.

If anyone remembers, Street Machine mounted their 2nd battery in a tray thing they built under the backseat on the EA Sony Scorcher thing they built. Was a good thing they built too
