Question Misfiring

Hey guys,

Went to start the Falcon up yesterday (nearly didn't), thought it was idling a little rough. Started to drive off and it farted like a milo-tin Civic! Disconnected the plugs one by one but couldn't figure out which ones were playing up, so I'm going to get new leads & plugs for it. A few questions though;

? Would idling in traffic cause the extractors to melt the leads?
? The hydraulic lifters make a racket- would this have contributed to it?
? I took it to 200 the previous night (I know, stupid :O), and I remember 4th gear only went to 4k or so then wouldn't go any further. Since I'd never been to 200 in it I thought it was normal and went to 5th, and it seemed to take longer getting there.
? Anyone know if indexing the plugs works?

The extractors worry me a little, they get pretty damn hot and the previous owner said it melted the clutch cable before they were shielded. Anyone with similar heat issues?

Cheers

vaccum leak to the MAP sensor is what I would be checking.
