My prediction is that the GTS will be promoted as the most amazing car that has ever hit the Australian market, despite the fact it will be around .2 of a second quicker 0-100m almost identical quarter mile to the R-Spec
The GTS has got an amazing suspension and brake package though, which you would expect with the price tag it comes.

According to the cover - the GTS 'mauled' the R-Spec.
If anyone here has read the comments on fullboost.com.au's faceache page regarding the article; I'm sorry to hear that.... |

Comparing apples and oranges. Two different generations of car, at different price points and with different power and tech in each. I'd be worried if they said the Holden didn't perform better than the Ford.
Fact is though that the Ford is nearly as quick despite being well down on power. |

I read a bit while in the queue at Coles and they said, if I remember clearly, some ordinary things about the Ford like it's a dinosaur! The GTS is however $20k more expensive and a newer model, hardly a fair fight. Hopefully the FH or whatever it will be will satisfy the Motor critics, as if!
Hopefully Ford does something nicer with the interior than the plane Jane FG though. |

Is this a rebirth of the "Any VF performance figures out there yet" thread?
Waiting for the usual suspects to start spewing their anti-GTS propaganda. |

In my opinion it shows how good the FPV is, and has been. It only took HSV 3 years and a 100k car to do it. It's a real shame that FPV won't be around any longer to counter the HSV.
Imagine the R-Spec with a tickled up tune, intercooler and some higher tech to assist with getting all that power down. |

For anyone interested in figures:
R Spec 0-100 = 4.67 Lap time = 1:08.8 GTS 0-100 = 4.55 Lap time = 1:05.6 Both cars auto btw

All this whiz bang suspension bs in the GTS when my 2k Shockworks coilover set up in the GT set up would probably run rings around it lol and that's without the 18" Enkei RPF1's I have on stand by when my current rubber wears out.

That's primarily a Motor Bike Race Track
Very short 2.16klm track with 12 corners Best Track to use the full potential of the HSV Gadgets I presume........

Fact is as driven out the showroom that's likely it.
That said I'd be interested in a simple change of rubber on the RSPEC to see how much influence the tyres on the GTS have on its track result in proportion to its other advantages. Don't get me wrong not implying a win it isn't going to happen just curious..... Once again though the Miami just reminds me of the little engine that can, 1.2l down, huge disadvantage on paper and more....yet straight line at least not a bad showing. Did they run a quarter though?

Yes short circuit with 12 corners and one long straight, the difference in track times would widen further on a bigger track

Fact is though, that HSV set out to make a road car that could also be used as a track car for the enthusiast. Credit to them, they have made a great car. Sure it might be more expensive, but when you look at what you get for the price, i think it's a relative bargain compared to some of the other offerings out there.
It's a very impressive bit of kit, and if i did track days, i'd certainly be keen to buy one. Just look at some of the times on that Broadford track, and you'll see that the GTS is in pretty good company. For my daily commute, the GT does more than enough for me! |

I can't say I'm incredibly surprised, the sane ones among us expected a degree of ***-whooping but wow, 3.2 seconds. To put that in perspective, the R Spec was 1.3 seconds quicker than a Fiesta ST on the same track. To be bettered by 3.2 seconds, the cover doesn't lie- mauled.

That is blistering time from the HSV. must turn in and hold a line unbelievably well to do that around there.

I suppose that "gimmick" called torque vectoring, and the rest of the traction aids that most on here were blasting really do help!
Just goes to show how well the HSV is set up for the track. Most here were slamming it for being a 6.2L just dropped into the GTS. Considering the FPV and HSV have relatively similar power, it proves the HSV is well set up. Still not sure it's worth that sort of coin as my daily driver? Then again, in a few years time a second hand one might suit well! |
