Default police caught up with street racers, dumb ***'s

NZ hoons nabbed from web shots

From correspondents in Auckland
October 20, 2005

NEW Zealand police caught up with street racers after footage of their activities was posted on the internet, including their vehicle's number plate.

The three-minute video of a modified Subaru racing up and down a suburban Christchurch street attracted complaints from around the world, The Press newspaper reported.

In the footage, the Impreza WRX performed 360-degree spins and burnouts before crashing into a tree.

At one point the car almost collided with another vehicle driving in the opposite direction.

"Members of the public recognised the street and police were able to track down the owner of the car through the registration seen on the internet and identified the driver through analysis of the film," Inspector Derek Erasmus told The Press.

James William White, 20, yesterday pleaded guilty in a Christchurch court to a charge of reckless driving.

He was sentenced to 120 hours community work and disqualified from driving for nine months.

White had denied posting the film on the internet.

yeah i think i may have seen that one, it didn't have the front bumper on did it?

Even still, who'd be stupid enough to post it on the net? oh well sucks to be him, but deserved what he got nonetheless!

Edit: Here is the video I believe is the one in question... hope this is ok to post considering they were nabbed in the end

That footage was on ACA and Ray Martin claimed it was being done in a Syndey Industrial site, shows you just how accurate reasearchers are, grab for ratings is all it is, and at the end of the day car clubs end up hated by the community.

And then we have people complaining that we dont allow burnout pics on the forums or banning idiots that do burnouts on associated AFF cruises!

Bike clubs have allways been "branded" and most are enthusiasts just for a cruise, car clubs can suffer the same if they misbehave publicly. but the actions of one can not surely taint a number of well managed clubs .

If you saw the story on ACA you would see that most of the cars were normal looking nice cars (quite a few fords for once, I saw an EA, an AU and an EF/EL pictured), so when we go for a cruise, people will be of the perception we are about to take over a street and do burnouts and possibly just ring the police, you see how stories like this can cause a panic and a lable to be placed.

This is the reason as Laminge said, we have to be on our BEST behaviour at ALL TIMES, so we can correct public image, and get to enjoy our cars without fear of being hated, as you have shown responsible behaviour leads to being invited, not turned away

Yeah well the job is to fool the public who has no idea. Someone should forward them an email pointing out that it was in NZ. But I bet they wouldn't want even more egg on their faces so they wouldnt publicly announce the correction.

Yes mate image means everything. as you get older it's not the car that cant do it, its my foot. We tend to enjoy the social and display and the gentile humm of the perfect note at speed limit.

The video was shot just around the corner from my work. The ironic thing is that the previous day we sold him the mags, bonnet(which he totalled in the crash worth about $600.00 second hand) and a front bumper :

The ACA episode was shot in Victoria....although I didn't look at the reg on the subaru. Alot of the stuff was file tape I think cause the boys trying to pic a fight with the coppers were in NSW...what a moron one was : The Vic copper is a mate of mine...nice guy working in Prahran/ Chapel street. I think the car doing burnout were in the Safeway car park behind Dan Murphy off Chapel St.

Just watched the vid for the first time. Now I cant say that Im a saint behind the wheel ( I take off fast sometimes, and traction might break at intersections) but I never do it around other people, for cameras or with anyone else in the car. That driver got owned and he deserved it, that was funny
