Default Ebay help

Hi people,

I am after a bit of help with ebay, i finally managed to sign up so all is headed in the right direction. I missed out of a blower the other day and i'm not happy ($15oo for a new T Trim arg), some fool at the last seccond outbid me. So my first question is how the hell do i throw in a last seccond bid, all it seems to let me do is place a max amount bid. If an item such as this blower is $14oo and it's in the final secconds how can i place a bid for $17oo or something like that so i know i wont get outbid.

Seccondley how do you set a reserve, iv'e listed a few items but can't work it out.

I think there was a thread like this a while back, some of the guys put up a link to a program that automatically puts a higher bid in for you if someone outbids you, with your highest limit put in also.

I'm not sure what it was though or what happens if another bidder is doing the same thing

There are a number of programs out there that will let you do this, I use auctionsniper Comes in very handy especially if you wish to place a bid late but won't be around/at your computer to do so. You earn credits by a system of referrals, sign up here Here

99% of ebay buyers bid in the last minute this helps to stop inflating the price, they call it Sniping.
Open up 2 windows on your screen one with your bid in place be prepared to put it the maximum your willing to pay for the item.
the other window use it to keep refreshing the page when the auction has 20 to 30 sec to go then press your maximum bid in on the other window, this way you hope there isn’t enough time for someone to bid back at you.
Also I hope your not using dial up it may be slow to do last sec bidding

i tend to just bid the normal way
figure out exactly how much you want to spend.. so i think about what it retails for, what its worth to me, whether i really need it and whether postage will affect the final price...
if you put in your maximum bid its not going to automatically go to that.. it'll sit on the lowest offer until someone comes along and outbids you... which would be no big deal ifs its more than you want to pay...
this way you dont get caught up with slow internet trying to refresh your page and more importantly you dont get caught in the hype of simply winning...

The starting bid is the only thing you can set.
Reserve prices are for vehicles only.

As for bidding. Enter your maximum whenever. If you're outbid then it shouldn't matter as it's more than you were willing to pay. It will only go to your maximum if someone else has already bid or places a higher bit later on.
Sniping is part of it all though. Bit of fun. All very simple.

I think its silly to enter your highest amount "whenever"....you should wait until as late as possible to enter your bid...otherwise this will drive the price up.

I agree, use Auction Sniper, its what I use most of the time on a popular item.

I can never understand why the hell people bid on things with days to go, even hours to go - you are just inflating the price! If bidding manually always wait till the last 30 seconds or less before placing your maximum bid. If you dont want to do it manually install one of the above mentioned programs - but they usually charge a monthly fee for their use.

I agree...

But Auction Sniper is not a pay monthly thing, you just pay a SMALL % of your winning bid:

http://auctionsniper.com/payment.aspx

It works out to be 2 tenths of ***** all...

.

I never "snipe"......I just wait until the last day or two, decide what I'm prepared to spend at a maximum and place my maximum bid. If someone pays more, they want it more. This also helps as often you spend more than you really want......Over 200 feed-backs on eBay.com 100%+ from New Zealand aint bad.
Must be working thus far then................

Problem is you bid early, sellers have other logins or have there friends pump up the price as once you bid they know you are interested, there for your paying a little extra.
Many times I have been outbid only to get a 2nd chance offer, my view is I was bidding against the seller, he pumped me up for us much as he could get then offered me a 2nd chance by saying the original buyer pulled out or he more than 1 of these items to sell.

This actually happened to me with the seller being a ford dealer with more than one log on. Nice isn't it. Complained to ebay, blah blah blah.

The thing i can't seem to figure out is that if there's 3osec left on an item and the bidding is at $15oo and i want to place a $17oo bid so i know i'll get it how the hell do i do that, all it seems to let me do is enter a max bid that it'll slowly bid up to.

Assuming your using Auction Sniper?

It wont slowly bid up to any amount. It will bid UP TO the max amount you enetered...if you put 1700 as your max bid...and the item is at 1600 with 5 seconds to go, it wont bid the full 1700 for you, only the next increment up from the 1600...whatever that is...

As for the brakes...Im guessing Auction Sniper wont let you enter the reserve amount as your max bid...

oh...lol...

that 1700 bid will always outbid someone who puts a bid on...until the bidding gets over 1700...

but as has been said...its a good idea NOT to bid early...wait until as late as possible as if you bid early, you're just going drive the price up...

Auction Sniper helps immensely...

thats because you have bid $500. if you want to bid $300 only, then youll need the seller to cancel your bid first.
you can only bid up, not down.

as per the thread. have 2 pages open, 1 with the auction listing, the other with your maximum bid entered and ready to go, at the stage of "confirm bid'.
check your listing page every few seconds till your down to about 8 seconds (or less if your game, ive done 3 seconds and the bid went through) and hit the "confirm bid" button. by the time it loads, you should have won (unless somene else bid more than you.
snipe bidding is the only way to buy off of Ebay. why jack up the prices and give the seller days/hours to inflate your bid.

watch the item you want... few days prior to ending and work out when and what time it will finish so you dont miss it

place a bid if you like but most of the time it makes others aware of competition and you may see the price skyrocket... otherwise wait until it says 40 secs, by refreshing that page with the little refresh tab, MAKE SURE your logged in first type your max bid (most you'd be happy spending, as there isnt enough time to make sure your still winning) and hope you win.

i avoid programs and everything else at all costs and read what the ebay message says about automatic bidding.... they may appear secs to days after a bid is placed.... thats no good if they bid 20secs before the end is it

main thing to look out for on ebay is FEEDBACK, 100% positive or 95+ is good if in doubt read the neg feedback.. most of the time its idiot ebayers who say this isnt real when it cost them 50cents and title even said NOT REAL.... makes you wonder

then some people are just stupid and take money and deregister usually feedback of 0-10 also sometimes with a name change.

but look for aussie ebayers, 100% positive or there abouts is great, and if it doesnt say something ask first.... worst thing is you not wanting or them not being able to do as you wanted ie post or payments...

if all is good watch your bank account worst thing is buying bargins and having nothing left.. wheres the saving in that!

goodluck

At one stage a few months ago ebay set it up that if you put a bid on in the last 20 or 30 secs you had to re enter your password - that sceme did not last too long. If i get a second chance offer on any goods I do not accept it even if I missed out by a dollar because their mates bump the price up.
This guy had a few XE parts for sale and every time I put a bid on the same couple of user ID's would come back and out bid me, then 1 of the bidders had some thing for sale which I was watching and the same ID's would always out bid the bidders - me thinks the mates were working together to get a better price

This is a problem on eBay when there is a reserve..........

Personally I think that eBay should automatically bid up to the reserve if you have put a higher max bid in than what the reserve is..........

For example in your case - the bidding is upto $172 atm but you have put in a max bid of $500 so if the reserve is $300 eBay should automatically put your bid in as $300 with a max bid of $500

Instead of waiting for other bidders to push the price up past the reserve.
