Default Barra Swapped Isuzu Truck

This guy drives me nuts, but at least he's featuring some of the rarer Ford's. This is not a Ford, but a rather crafty use of a Barra.

I designed some custom brake cables and adapted an off the shelf hydraulic valve control cable for a customer who did a BTR and Barra in a Toyota Coaster a while back.

Its good to see the Barra getting some use in commercial vehicles which tend to have large engine bays.

I wonder how much fuel an FG XR6T engine would use on injected LPG and how long a ZF would hold up in my ACCO

Ten points for enginuity but I've always found the Izuzu engines to be pretty good and have seen a few with big numbers on the odometer.

Their AMT transmissions however... you could make a killing out of a conversion kit for those and I mean ANY other gearbox would be superior.

Drove a brand new 75-155 on the weekend (my SES group's new truck) and f&%$ me the gearbox is the worst I have ever experienced.

Something that most of these conversions never think of, is these truck are designed to take diesel engines. Due to the air flow of the cabover design, a diesel is the logical choice. A petrol engine will always run at higher temperatures hemmed in under the cab. Every single petrol conversion I've ever seen is bogged down with cooling issues, requiring an array of electric fans, scoops and other extra crap a diesel would never need.
The diesel versions naturally keep their cool while idling in heavy traffic used all day as delivery trucks.
The US Chevy/Isuzu is built will higher cab pedestals to allow more air to pass over and around the lower set petrol engine.

I admire the engineering but nah, would never want to own a petrol powered Jap truck.

Interesting you say that, had a customer who did a 351C on LPG into a Ford Trader and had a lot of cooling system issues with it, it was his daily.

Took a while to rectify but eventually he got there, makes me wonder if the lack of airflow around the engine itself was the major issue.
