just been thinking about changing the wagons rear axel from live (open wheel) axel, to an IRS set up. how much would i be looking at and what would i need to change? im assuming suspension (coil instead of leaf) diff and axels (obviously), would i need to upgrade to ABS? anything else?
any suggestions/comments or other would be greatly appreciated col

all i'm going to say is it will be a lot of screwing around, especially considering that ford has never from the factory put irs in a falcon wagon, (with the exception of the territory being based on the falcon) in saying that it can probably be done, but it will cost a lot, depending on how much you do yourself

If your thinking about fitting AU or BA IRS the whole assembly is in a subframe which is then mounted to the car. A BA setup would probably be easier to adapt due to the springs being mounted in the subframe and upper shock mounts are in a similar position, where as AU IRS still use the same upper mounts for the struts as live axle srings and shocks and the wagon does not have this provision. Then theres the mounting of the control blade to be considered.
Alternatively you could spend a few bucks and have a custom setup made. |

in all honesty, it'd be far easier to have a jaguar IRS fitted than it would be to have the ford IRS setups done

In a sedan, it's pretty much unbolt one, and bolt in the other, but the wagon is a whole new ball game. BTW, BA wagons still use leaf springs, so I don't even think that using BA rear IRS instead of AU will do you any favours.
Leaf springs can carry more than IRS, which is why ford stuck with the leaves in the wagon and ute.

A BA IRS subframe would be more easilly adapted due to BA sedan rear chassis rails being simmilar to wagon. Weight carrying may not be an issue, the advantages of coils over leaf would be ride, tuneability and in BA's case a wider rear track.
Still, to convert to an IRS setup would be a major job, there maybe issues with fuel tank clearance too. JC he had mentioned the change to coil springs from leaf. |

id say speak to FTG .. they may have thought about this for their tsunami wagon???
and being they have ALL the parts on site to look at without raiding the local shopping center carpark with a camera and a hot ear from leaning on the ground.. might give you a better indication

just to clear up something, you refered to a live axle diff as an open wheeler, just because its a live axle, thats not the case...
an open wheeler is called such as its not a limited slip diff, you can have an open wheeler "OR" LSD live axle or IRS diff, it all depends on whats inside the housing |
