Default Acceleration Techniques ? thought's

I have owned a few falcons over the past 6 years , 2 of which were a eb xr6 and ed xr6 and finally my pride and joy a mildly worked 2001 au futura 4.0l.
I was just hoping on getting a few people's thoughts on the power delivery through acceleration rev range (keeping in mind all my cars were 4spd auto's).
I have found my maxium performance delivery to NOT be peddle to the floor but actually 1/2" inch off and this will provide more of a kick through the gears????
please thought's on this ???? :eclipsee_

I own a 5speed, and with the manual it seems clear. FOOT TO THE FLOOR THE WHOLE WAY :-), dunno about the auto though? My Mrs has a EL falcon with no guts what so ever, and if you dont plant it you dont go nowwhere, nearly been t-boned more than once from extremely bad throttle response and high lag

yeah !!! it's funny with the auto's i find you have to judge them when putting the foot down to generate the right shift points unless of course you edit the shift point throught the ecu..

after driving with my car in power #1 mode for the last 2 monts now roughlly ( with the 4-speed adaptive shift auto ) , my auto kicks back and changes fine , at 1 time adaptive shift was more responsive in my car , but i liked the higher rpm gear change so i changed it to #1 mode , was boggy as a dog on kickback for the first 2 week sor so , goes like a rocket now and snaps back hard and fast , very responsive too , i just recentlly put it back in adaptive shift the other day to see how much difference i noticed again , it was huge , adaptive shift now feels awefull ..lol.

my acceleration method is tramp it ! ..lol

I know the adaptive shift is really the only mode that learns ya driving style , but its strange how after tramping it around heaps now in #1 mode for a few months it has been kicking back fine the last month or so , kicks right back too ! .

I find its the same, if you floor it it just kicks down and revs it tits off. Where as if you ease off a little i torques it way up threw the powerband where it has more oomph. It quite amazing when you leave a falcon auto and drive a 'revvy' car, you just realise how much footwork you uncounciously do juggling the throttle on the auto for maximum power/performace and fuel economy.

so other than actually measuring half an inch under the pedal, is there a better way to judge this? i was thinking by revs, how mar does it rev out to if you use this method, or does it still go all the way?

why is this so, i have the same prob with my auIII I6 tonner.
it is a slug on take off but hit 3500 rpm and she starts pulling harder do the utes have a different set up cause even wheel spins are impossable
where as my auII futura sdn has better all round pick up and my tranny friend increased my line pressure and that made a big difference
flat out or not at all!

Well i will be very curious to test this theory in a falcon 4.0ltr.
0-100 times with foot flat to floor or foot just off the floor to provide quicker changes.???
would be curious to see

I find the best acceleration is to use the 'left foot on brake, right on accelerator' method. Put the car into 1st, rev the crap out of it, change into 2nd just as it hits redline, hold it to redline into 3rd and do the same into "D".

But your transmission don't like it very much.

I know what your talking about with the 1/2 inch off the floor, i tend to flatten it, then when it gets close to redline, back off slightly (1/2 inch), let it drop into the next gear then squeeze it back on. Done it with both my cars, EA & the AU. The EA i had to do it with, cause the bloody thing would rev right out way past red line (85+km/h) in first gear & would be screaming its ding off (no tacho but the sound was nasty) before droping into the next gear, and you could feel that its acceleration would slow when doing this, the au does the same, you can feel it slow slightly right at red line where its maxing out, so a slight lift to get it to drop into the next gear gives a quicker run. I use the same technique in any auto i drive, so that it changes exactly when i want it to.
Its funny that sometimes when going off the line i dont boot it, but give it a fair squeeze, it feels alot more alive, & quicker Accelleration than if i was to flatten it.

I let mine change at about 4500rpm, but I keep it floored until Im nearly there, than back off a bit.

I'm all for the squeeze. The auto is not a flat-footer Too much of a lag between pedal-mashing and car-movement. The squeeze allows you to feel the car respond to the accelerator inputs. That being said though, It wouldn't make a bees dick worth of difference would it?

From traffic lights sometimes, I like to Hold the brakes on (with the brake pedal), and a little accelerator... I see the other lights go orange, and increase to about 50% throttle, then I see them turn red, and I floor the accelorator, my lights turn green, and I take my foot off the brakes, get a little chirp from the rears, and then 1st to limit (unless 100)... usually 70 or 80 around canberra :(
