Default Mid life crisis

When did you or do you think you will go through yours?

If you have explain how it effected you.

If you haven't, explain how you think it will.

Nah no mid life crisis for me.
I never grew up in the 1st place so it's not
a problem to begin with.

A mid life crisis is a term used by jealous young people to describe someone who is old enough, successful enough, rich enough and smart enough to own the cars they drool over, live in the house they drool over, be "friendly" with the girls they drool over, travel to the places they drool over and generally live life to its fullest.

It is interesting to note that the more immature and jealous the young person, the more vitriol shown and that almost all are male.

The females in the same age group tend to have a more open view as they are often the ones who get to ride in the cars, visit the houses, travel as companions and be "friendly" while living life to its fullest.

My mid life crisis came a little early for me. I was in my late 20's.

I had just gone through a divorce, and for me it was the "I'm going to do something or buy something and not care about the ramifications or how practical it is etc..." and I just did it. So I bought a new 2 door Honda Prelude Coupe, which you may not think is exactly "radical" but for me it was huge. I've always been a practical family man seeing reason and spending wisely.

So to me a mid life crisis is doing something and not caring what people think or what the future ramifications are....

I'm due for my mid-life crisis as I'm mid 30's who has worked to pay off 2 houses and the wife's love of horses ,but never really got what I always wanted which is a nice ute to tow my race car which I yet to buy .But I 1st have to learn to slow down enought to have the time to buy these things so I might just start with a new ute to atleast to the wife's float.

As someone else suggested - first you need to grow up.

@ 37, I'm going on 18. Infact, my wife reckons I'm going backwards in maturity as the years go by, ha ha ha. Only difference now - compared to back in 1989 (when I was 18), I can afford most of the things I want in life.

+1 for Flappist.

A mate just bought himself a new Harley for his 40th, a few people commented on a mid life crisis.
The reason was he sold an investment property that outlived it's tax purpose and had the coin to afford something he wanted.

That doesn't explain those guys who are going balding and grey ontop who decide it would be a great idea to grow their hair long and put it in a ponytail. :

OK it's one to accuse of another for going through a mid life crisis but who has gone through it themselves and reflected on their life in a negative way.

are you thinking financial blowout ,or revisiting your youth ?. I am as above ,never matured ,spend it like im dying ,drink like i just turned 18 ,wife says im going backwards. older i get the more toys i can afford so im still going up the rollacoaster . A lot of people live life way to seriously, ive got friends in mid twenties that act like they are 60 and settled [ sorry to those immature 60s people] they will for sure look for a little excitement ,as they get older .

It also does not explain guys who wear makeup cut their arms, wear black and cry a lot or guys who wear over sized pants, caps on backwards and make strange hand gestures to each other, or guys who put gell in their yellow and orange hair, bits of metal all over their face and wear black boots everywhere or guys who wear "whatever brand car they have" clothes, drive from McDonalds car park to McDonalds car park in little convoys and open their bonnets everytime they stop just to make sure everyone can see that their engine is still there.

Are they mid life crisis victims? Or just weird insecure people who are trying to be noticed.....

Well I live in a large house in 3/4 acres on a hill overlooking Fraser Island, drive a new sports cars, have a GF who is many years younger than me, have been on holidays to 3 different countries so far this year and am having a pretty good time...

So if that is a mid life crisis then you would be the jealous one wouldn't you....

Yep I should have held out on getting married and found myself an middle aged sugar daddy going through a mid-life crisis instead! Could have 'put out' and got my HECS debt paid off!

Although I love your way of thinking (denial, denial, denial :P ) I don't think what you described reflects a mid life crisis. A mid life crisis has nothing to do with being a generally more successful and mature person and having things that generally take time to accumulate (ie paid off mortgage so spending that money on a boat instead). It is the usually straight laced 45 year old accountant who thinks going to the movies on tightwad Tuesday is 'lashing out' who then wakes up one day and goes 'screw it I'm quitting my job, going to Jamaica and becoming a pottery maker!'

I think the jealousy is usually coming from the ones denying the existence of a mid-life crisis, because they realise they are closer to the joys of adult nappies and daily enemas in the crappy nursing home than the young punk laughing at them for dying their hair 'nearly black' and buying that red sports car.

Ah the joy of being 21, by the time I am at mid life crisis stage those I am having a dig at now will not remember it at all... :
As for what I think will happen to me. I reckon I will throw in the towel as a lawyer, become a florist, dye my hair deep red and cut it into a bob. I will probably also dress like a hippy. I'll become a scrap-booking queen and discover a love of velvet. :

Seriously though, I see it more as a re-evaluation than a 'crisis'.

My Dad found a new religion, quit teaching, went to uni, started a brand new career and bought a PT Cruiser Cabriolet! It is so good to see him finally happy! I wish he was that cheerful when we were groing up!

The way I see it, in our 20's we take the first real steps choosing our life path on the basis that it is what we think we want for ourselves. However, at 50 (even 40) you're just not the same person. You can't live 20 or 30 years and not see and learn things that change you and your priorities. Sometimes the 'crisis' arises because someone made the wrong decision for themselves in the past and only realises it later in life then decides there is still time to do what makes them happy.

You can't blame someone for wanting to enjoy life!

Mum is going through hers. She bought a green SV6 after every car she's ever owned being a pov pack in appliance white, got a tattoo, done some pole dancing and street funk dancing classes, changed jobs numerous times after being in a very secure and decent paid job, and goes out all the frigging time etc etc

It's bloody depressing that she is having more fun than me (I'm 21) but she deserves it and as long as she is happy then good on her I say :
