Default My sub 8min (GT4) M3 CSL Nurburgring lap.

I know that nobody cares about Gran Turismo 4 anymore but this took a bit of effort.
Its a 7,58 lap of the ring in a unmodded '03 M3 CSL on N1 tyres (the crappy 'comfort' tyres not the ones you get with the cars).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PkHuAd1LBg

There is also a 7,59 video of a '05 330i with S3's (the sports tyres that come with the cars), both done with my G25 cockpit. If anyone can beat those times with stock cars and those tyres, i'll be very impressed

And i know this is a video and should be in the video thread, but this took me weeks and nobody will notice if i put it in there.

Yep no aids, just an oil change and N1 comfort tyres for the CSL and oil change and S2 sports tyres for the 330i.
Did about 2000k's in the 330i to get under 8 min, and probably 1800k's in the CSL.

Stock '03 M3 CSL (no oil change) on N1 tyres after 3 laps my best time was 8.24.792...you sir are a good driver. Those N1's have next to no grip, like driving on bald tyres...

Cheers

Yeah, makes everything harder. Cars understeer more and get loose under brakes in places they normally wouldn't. Its ironic how the M3 has noticeably more speed along the straight bits but is slower than the 330i through the corners because of the tyres.
I'd like to spend a month seeing how low i could get the 330i on N1's but after 4000k's in very similar cars, i'm over the whole bmw thing

The G25 makes everything soooo easy!! As soon as I got it I was instantly doing 10-15 seconds a lap better in most cars compared to my momo force. Do you have it setup on full 900 degree or a custom one like 180 degree mode? Also were you using full manual or clutchless?

Tidy lap none the less.

Thanks, I've got it in 900 degree, the clutch and h-gate dont work in GT4. This is my cockpit.

If you where sitting in a Ford seat, say from from an XR6, I'm sure that would be worth a second or two per lap as well...

That is seriously smooth driving Ken... very very good. Mate you're dedicated, is there a reason you were going for sub 8mins?

How about the Motor Magazine competition a few years ago, did you enter that? Mate, with driving that smooth, I wouldn't be surprised if you told me you got first prize for that.

I noticed in your replay at the start, it showed the power as being 354hp... I believe that was due for an oil change?

After three I got 8.13.xx : But it took me another 10 laps to beat that with 8:10.097.... I think it'll take me a few months to get that perfect lap....

bwahahahaha its actually true. How many times do you see people leaning while turning corners in their video games?

....nice effort. Did you mow some grass and modify any panels doing that time?

I tried last night and after 5 laps could only pull an 8:28 with an unmodded M3 CSL (hand control) and it wouldn't have a straight panel left on it.

Those N1 tyres take some getting used to but are predictable and consistent at least. Will have a few more cracks tonight because there was room for improvement but I doubt I can knock 30 seconds off it.

If you get the chance take the 2002tii race car for a spin with the biggest turbo available....350kw and ~980kg - ultimate drift machine and surprisingly quick if can keep it straight.

I am a big fan of El Capitan course as well. Like 'The Ring' I doubt I will ever acheive a perfect lap there.

Its as simple as trying again and again and again... before you know it, you'll see yourself in sub 8.25's then 8.20's and so on. But you'll reach a point where your gains are very very small. Stop playing for a week and you lose that rhythm for a while so more practise is needed to get back the speed....
Ken proved that it isn't impossible to get sub 8 minutes, so you know you've got room for improvement. I just did another 5 laps and got 8:06.537. I can't see myself getting sub 8's before too long though, but I know there's a couple of seconds improvement with about another 20 laps... maybe.

Very nice. Good stuff.

Regarding GT5. Those pics are from GT5 Prologue which is gonna be out by the end of 2007. GT5 will be out sometimes mid-late 2008.

GTHD is already available for free download from Playstation store.

Thanks guys.
I've just pulled the wheel out again, so i'm going to have a crack with the F6 and the monaro maybe.
also, i was calling the N1 tyres 'comfort' tyres but they are actually the economy ones.

I don't know anything about GT4 (only played it once and that was doing some licence tests), but the real-life E46 M3 CSL did 7:50 on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife. The 7:58 is 1.83% off the real-life best time so that seems like a pretty realistic game.
