I recently exchanged mine (2.5Ltr V6 93 Telstar TX5) and the exchange price with me doing the work was only $150.00 from a smallish workshop in Bayswater Vic. I was told that my alternator is basically the same one that is used on the Falcon V6, so I am guessing that the prices would be pretty much the same.
It cost me a lot more to do all the ancillary stuff than it cost for the alternator though. I had to change both belts as they were on the way out. I took both rocker covers off and resealed them so that they wouldn't leak oil into the new alternator (which would have made the guarantee void), and I had to replace a broken belt adjuster on the power steering belt because I had disturbed it. Then there was also replacement coolant which all adds up. I think I spent an extra $250 - $280 on top of the replacement alternator.
The reason I told you about that was to give you a bit of a heads up for what you might want to keep an eye out for.
Most places will not honour the guarantee on the replacement alternator if you don't do something about the oil leaks that are usually the cause of it failing in the first place.
I'm not sure what level of understanding you have of exchange parts is but you can usually exchange your old alternator for a refurbished one at a much better cost. This works for almost all parts that can be refurbished.

Cheers
Wayne
