Hi Guys n Gals,
Well, after buying my 18's for my 06 LX, the G/F has said that Im not allowed to do any upgrades to the car til after Chrissy, so with only a month to go, Im starting my research early. Was thinking of doing the exhaust next, but have had a change of heart and thinking I should go the filter next! Was just looking at 819 FLY's job on the filter which looks quiet impressive, so now its just which filter to buy! I've had a look at BMC, which look pretty good and know a few people who have been happy with them - For about $150US I can get one of these http://www.bmcairfilters.com/infoVAS.asp but Im not sure on what size diameter I would need. So, long story short, What should I aim for - Is K&N a safer bet, or are there any other brands I should look out for? THx in advance! Chris |

BMC and K&N are both trusted brands and I would stick with one of those two.
K&N do a kit for our car, which includes induction pipe, pod filter, a cold air feed, a breather hose, clamps etc. I've found it gives a nice, deep induction sound but the problem is having an exposed pod filter in the engine bay - not good for summer! 819 FLY's job places the filter lower in the engine bay, which is obviously better. I am soon switching over to an enclosed system - something I wish I did from the start (ahhh...hindsight). |

Yeah so far the setup I have isn't too bad at all. But being in Townsville means that I can't ford water as much, even though I never do (eeekkk repacking wheel bearings). Total cost of the materials set me back about 130 bucks.... including the filter which I picked up for 20 bucks from a friend. I did previously run the airbox with flexible 3" piping from the fog light panel running up to it where the resonator previously attached to the airbox which was another idea.
I guess as mentioned before, warm air is the nemesis, it will decrease engine efficiency and power so sourcing cooler air can will give a slight improvement over standard application. Just connecting Pod to the flexible piping off the Throttle Body probably isn't the wisest idea. Have Fun with what ever you decide upon.

Well, that site is a new discovery around here, and as far as I know, no one here has ordered one from Yuh Lin as yet, so we're not sure of the quality. If you order one, I'm afraid you might be the guinea pig! $180 for an enclosed system isn't bad at all.

I've gone the cheap way.
Removed the lower Resonator. (Induction roar is truely a lovely sound isn't it!!) That leaves a nice 80mm intake hole in the bottom of the upper box. Routing the intake hose to the, soon to be modified, fog light panel. Although I could have just run the hose around the radiator or even run it back to the windscreen cowl. Changed the panel filter to K & N. But thats just me. I am more about function than form . . . although I am starting to come around . . . colour coding, de-badging, angle eyes, LED tail lights . . . So many things - so few $$$$'s. Fredo :hihi:

Oh yeah, I know what you mean! Apparently my filter was actually posted yesterday (doubt it though) so there is a small chance of it arriving b4 Xmas at least!

Well, didn't know where to put the pics of the crappy exhaust tip I chose, but here it is.
Going to give it a couple of weeks to see if I like it, but Im certain im going to go back and buy a new tip from him! Sounds F'ing unreal though, and Im super happy with the end result. Sound is brilliant, has a nice rumble when you start it, and at idle, and isnt too loud in the cabin, Only noise is when you are giving it a bit!

Hey mate, looks good, but i agree with finding a more suited tip. you'll have to get a sound clip on it for us... oh and with your lukey catback, what resonator/ mufflers have you got on it...?

No resonator, just a lukey 'straight through' muffler.
Now i've got a recording of my exhaust from my iphone, how do I now get it on here? The tip is slowly growing on me - depends on which angle I look at it!
