The article: ALMOST 25 years after Tina Turner ran Mel Gibson out of Bartertown, George Miller is gearing up to shoot another Mad Max film in Sydney. According to industry sources, the fourth film in the groundbreaking Australian franchise, which many people thought would never get off the ground, might well go into production as early as the later part of this year. Scouting for locations is already happening and specialised technicians have been approached. It's extremely unlikely, however, that Gibson will be asked to take his leathers out of mothballs to reprise the role that made him an international star. Two years ago, Miller said he considered the Hollywood heavyweight too old to play the avenging road warrior. "It won't be Mel. He was 21 when he made the first one, now he's a lot older and his passion is for filmmaking and directing," Miller said soon after winning an Oscar for Happy Feet. "I don't think he is into acting and I don't think he would be interested in being involved at all." At the time, Miller suggested that he was considering a new, young star for the lead. The Daily Telegraph could not confirm casting intentions because nobody at Kennedy Miller was available for comment. Nor could we confirm whether Miller intended to direct Mad Max 4 himself. And if he did, whether he intended to direct it simultaneously with Happy Feet 2, which is currently in production in Sydney. There was also doubt as to whether the fourth film would qualify as Australian and thus be entitled to the Government's 40 per cent tax rebate. I wonder who they will pick to Play Max and how it will pan out? |

Would love to have seen MG back in the role.
I somehow think it won't carry it off with another actor as Mad Max. |

If they are going to get someone younger it might mean a remake and not a squel. They would need someone the same age as Gibson to make a sequel.
Either way the car better be in it or I'll give it a miss.

So as the interceptor has to be the fastest vehicle and traditionally was not covered in stripes and bling like the patrol cars it will have to be a turbo 6... |

i actually think bana would be a wise and logical choice, history shows remakes and sequels rarely work, but if people involved are passionate about the source material they are in with a chance. the original director ticks one box and bana has already declared his love for the max franchise in LTB. i believe that an aust car is a necessity as oz fans would scream if it wasnt and a big attraction to OS audiences were the strange cars with the steering on the wrong side but i think murdering coupes is not a good thing! would also be a great promotional op for ford to get involved(short run fg interceptor anyone?) past movies show that if the movie is received well the change in star car works just look at gone in 60 seconds, elanor is forever remembered as a 60s pepper grey pony not a 70s yellow one. and at risk of showing my nerdiness bumblebee as a camaro in the new transformers movies disgusted me at first but after seeing the movie a vw never would have worked. i think the most important part of the movie will be the locations and the overall post apocolyptic feel........and fords, BLACK FORDS...................and blue heelers possibly!

When Love the Beast was on, Eric was asked that Question in the Q & A section and he said he hadn't been approached to play the part. I think he would make a great Max.

Russel Crowe should play Steve Bisleys part of Goose.
And this bloke http://au.tv.yahoo.com/home-and-away...sh-quong-tart/ should play the Toecutter.

I say "leave it alone".
While I can understand the affinity to the original three movies, if the original character is not the centre of the story line, then it's not "Mad Max" at all is it?! If the movie does get up, and they bring in a different "Max", will anyone really appreciate it - I know what I think of the trilogy, and bringing a replacement is not something I want to see happen. If they splinter the storyline to pick up the story of (for example), the Feral Boy, or the Gyro Captain (and ffs, lets not start up the whole MM2 Gyro Captain/MM3 Gyro Captain scenario again!!! :P), it again isn't "Mad Max" - so what would it be?!? |

I saw in the paper the other day that they were starting on a new Mad Max film, the 4th in the series. George Miller at the helm with a new actor to play Max (not using Mel Gibson because he is too old (and rich (and probably doesn't want to act in it, although a cameo would be nice))).
All this got me to thinking what car will Max be driving. The coupe was killed off in MM2. It is years later (but before society has fully broken down) what sort of car should Max be driving. No doubt it is already cast and planned but I'd be interested in seeing peoples choices. I'd hate to see another coupe cut up for filming but I'd like him to stay in the Ford family. Ford Choices: XD/XF Falcon - cheap, quick, tough and has that nice "history" feel about it. AU Falcon Ute (5.6) - as above and the "out there" looks might suit the film. BF/FG F6 - It's probably a bit too "new" for this film but it would generate good publicity for FoMoCo V8 Supercar -? Other Choices: HSV R8/W427/Maloo - Holden are pretty canny with publicity and might be able to scrape up some money to do this (say provide 8 free cars for filming) it would be a publicity coup for HSV. Toyota Prius/Honda Insight/Other Hybrid (maybe even a Tesla electric car) - With petrol a scarce resource expect these to make an appearance if only for comic relief. |

apparently there was a disagreement on the script between gibson and the director. mel wanted to use the new film to explain the downfall society was all the jews fault.
