2.5" catback = $300
gives your exhaust a deep tone and makes louder.
get extractors for that extra oomph.

not alot of power gained until you upgrade the engine. 2.5" exhaust is enough to let you beat a stock vehicle though

Pacemakers, 3 inch High Flow Cat, 3 inch Mandrell bent system, droopy tip (to aim noise down, less cop hassles, harder to test db, as reflects off road before microphone)
$1050 Total.

Mainly top end gain. Suit vehicle with some mods.

3 inch is a bit extreme for a i6.. As you said that would suit a car with mods or a turbo.
I would say 2.5 inch pipe, straight through muffler with/without rear reso if you want it fairly quiet. Hi-flo cats are..optional. Looking at around 300 to 350 bux, might add extra for tip. Gains about what.. 4-5 kw?? Good luck with your purchase.

Im running Pacemaker h4480 comp extractors, hi-flow cat, 2.5" redback straight thru single muffler and resonator, and fat chrome tip. Total $1g.

I've gained an incredible amount of fuel economy from this setup, long trips and short.
