Hi,
This morning i went to take out $600 to pay rent and it did not dispense after it said "Dispense Malfunction". Ok i thought, this has happened before and they throw the money straight back in. To my shock it still has not been put back in over 3 hours later. Now it looks as though my money is gone? I have tried ringing the bank but it is hard to get anything out of them on a saturday. This isnt going to be a "You cant prove you didnt get the money" thing is it? Any ideas? Cheers all.

Apparently when that happens, the money is credited back to your account. Most likely in this case it'll be credited to your account on Monday.

Yeh thats what im hoping. The scary thing is, is that the atm carried on afterwards, and didnt shut itself down into out of order mode like they usually do.

Thats why you pay all your bills including rent using Internet Banking.
All can be done from the comfort of your own home. Cheers.

You will have to contact the branch on Monday Morning.
Back in my day you would have to fill out a form before the funds would be credited

There wasnt a daily withdrawal limit on your account, that was $600 or lower?

I've had an eftpos transaction fail and it took a few hours before the funds made it back to my account.
Go into the bank when it's open if the funds haven't reappeared. They'll have all the hard records and be able to work it out. |

That does not always mean it is safe I recently had an incident , That I am still fighting, where I paid to another persons account $341.00 and $341.00 dollars came out of my account but when it arrived in the other persons account it was only $34.10 all other info was correct eg reference etc but amount was short basically we have all documentation but my bank says I cant prove it was their fault and not the other bank.

As a rule the ATM knows how much cash has been issued either partly or none at all,if this is the case it will reverse the transaction back into your account generally within 24hrs. If the machine jams whilst issuing and is unsure of what has been issued there will be no reversal. You will then need to contact your bank and fill in the necessary paperwork, generally not a quick proccess unless the ATM is an in branch machine and belongs to your bank.
Trust me I an ATM Tech! Hope this helps

Yer my dad has a problem with walking away from atm's without collecting his money. The machine will redraw it back in and put it back into your account aslong as someone doesnt come and pinch it.

Yeah i'd wager that it will bounce back into your account over the weekend (which i realise sucks BIG TIME).
If it doesnt, the banks are extremely well behaved when it comes to this sort of thing. (like they are with most big publicity issues, ie. netbank fraud). Should be fairly obvious tho, looking at a log of the ATM's activities.

That happened to me not long ago, and as has been mentioned you'll need to go into the bank and fill out a form. Well I did anyway.

Happened to me at the casino, shorted me $500,I got the money back in a few days when they balanced it up.
Actually saved me that $500 as I would have left it on the tables, along with the other $500 the machine gave out.. |

there is 2 ways to do it if the atm is attached to a bank branch then you can go into the branch and as suggested above fill in a form and they will investigate and refund the money to you.
If the ATM is not at a branch you will need to call your own bank and lodge a disputed transaction with them. I dont know what the time frame for other banks is but with Westpac (I used to work for them) its around 21 days if its another banks atm and if its one of their own ATM's and you have operated your accounts properly (havent had lots of overdrawn fees or been overdrawn for a long period of time in the past 12 months) they will generally credit the money or part of it back to you on the spot. You will definately get the money back if the machine simply hasnt dispensed the money as they have registers in them to record jams and how much they have dispensed in any given period. The reason for the delay if the ATM is not at a branch or is with another bank is that they can only check how much physical cash in the ATM when it is cleared which is usually only a couple of times a week depending on how busy an ATM it is and most banks use independant contractors to empty and refill the machines so they need to send them a request to check the machine as part of their normal maitenance and then it will be done. |
