So if an app goes around that infects your phone, and you have no way of doing anything on your phone, this is a bad thing how?

I doubt they would use it for anything unrelated to that. Maybe if you pirate something as well.

I have also heard that they don't have a "Copy" and "Paste" feature with anything that has to do with entering and moving text.... shocking if true.

My panasonic phone had that option 5 years ago.....

Well, as a group known as iPhone Atlas says

"Apple has apparently included a blacklisting mechanism in iPhone OS 2.x via which the device can phone home, check for unauthorized applications, and disable them."

So, if you download a 3rd party (or any) app that Apple doesn't like Apple can delete it without telling or asking you!

Well I'd imagine it would be in the user license agreement (you know the box you tick, but never read the agreement).

So they do tell/ask you.

And the EULA is usually only on the software NOT the phone.

hmmm im pretty sure if you purchased the phone you should be able to do what you like as long as its not illegal

but to sell a product and enforce that only that company's products be used on that phone is BS

nothing will change people will still buy iphones, cant wait till we get the iphone in shop and having customers come back saying their software disappeared...

N95 8gb was designed as the iPhone killer..
and it does a pretty good job from what ive seen ..
especially given how old the iphone is now

the next gen of nokia flagship models will eat the iphone until they make an iphone 2

Considering that the iPhone is owned by apple and goes together well with the whole ipod / ipod video / itunes setup, I doubt those phones will 'eat' anything. Especially since bucket loads of people would have already bought the iPhone, and its pretty much unbrickable - unlike all my crappy old Nokias. Watch how quick they come out and the problems they will all have because of it.

Not just illegal. How about the free apps that Apple dont happen to like (read, dont make money on).

the thing is though, if you purchase something you should be able to do what you want with it, not have the company who sold it to you come and take it away. people who use pirated stuff know the risks if they get caught, so let the law handle them, not the producers...

that would be like buying a falcon and then speeding in it. does that mean ford australia can dial in to your car and set a speed limiter at max 110km/h because that's the general national speed limit? i don't think so...

If its intended use (removing malicious apps) is adhered to then its a nice feature. If it ends up just being a way to remove apps that Apple don't like then it's not so good.

People that have N95's obviously love their buggy Symbian OS so much, myself i can't wait to get rid of it.

As far as MMS, who needs this overpriced feature when you have full email access, which apart from data usage is completely free!

Yeah sending pics by email is great.
Assuming that the person you send it too has email on their phone.

Although I wish my N95 had a touch screen. That part of the iPod I like.

Yeah those htc touch handsets are a great thing.
I've had the chance to play with a few at work and I was pretty impressed.

From everything ive read "bang for your buck" wise you get alot more to play with, with the N95 handsets.

Personally I dont like the look of them myself but they have alot of features.
I see the Iphone as more or less a gimmick/flavour of the month type thing although they do look really cool.

At the end of the day though I can see the Iphone selling alot more units than the N95 nokia just for the fact that people "percieve" it as being great because its from apple and can function like an ipod and the old saying is perception is reality.

They kinda already do. One of the Microsoft updates that are downloaded by your computer is a microsoft verification tool ("MVT"??). It is not exactly called that I think, but the name has 3 words.

If you select it and download it without reading what it actually does with the rest of the usual security updates etc you get a msg on startup saying that it has detected illegal software, and a 60 second timer ticks down to before windows opens.

There is an MMS app for Iphone anyway ... a few people at work have them ... and we have a test one floating around. So I don't see the big deal with the Iphone not having it already.

Looking at the spec of the HTC Touch Diamond ... it looks like a much better setup than the Iphone .. although it does run on a Winblows based OS ... which may end up being buggy like all MS products.

Only time will tell I guess ... but from what I have seen ... no issues so far with Iphones here at work.

Yes and no, both have very distinct advantages. Personally I'll take my N95 8GB any day - it's got the features that I want that the iPhone doesn't - e.g. 5MP camera, keypad, etc.
But I definately can understand the desire of the iPhone - add a decent camera into it, and I would have to think twice about my choice.

The real phones to beat now are being released by Samsung - there's the Innov8 i8510 which is 8MP camera, and goes head to head with the upcoming N96. And then there's the Omnia to compete with the iPhone. Personally, I think Samsungs onto some winners here (obviously based only on the specs and features), but there lack of market share will probably hurt the sales.

Difference there is that your running the Windows Update (i.e. impliedly authorising it to do it), the argument with the Apple scenario is that they can just come in and do it when ever they want.

Ipod would be much easier going for a run, thats what it's designed for

As for email when out, I think we rely too much on technology these days, and take work everywhere we go.
