Your not going to get much gains from a cam just yet as the heads and intake manifolds will be choking your car to death... only when you upgrade these will a cam be really beneificial

The GT has 25pound injectors with a 75mill throtel body and larger MAF sensor, on an importes US HO motor with unigue GT 40Heads (apparently not interchangable with standard GT 40Heads), roler rockers, and a unique inner dampner spring in the valve springs. There is also a 13mm Phenolic heat spacer between the upper and lower intake manifolds, which are also unique and bigger than standard xr8's. Aswell as a unique cam and EEC module, programed to run with premium fuel. Also it has a low resistance air cleaner intake to improve air flow. (Valves Intake 46.4 exhaust 38.6) (Valve spring compression kg @ spec length mm Intake 40.0 @ 45.2 / 127 @ 33.0 exhaust 38.6 @ 40.6 / 120 @28.4) (Rocker Arm Ratio 1.70:1) (Camsharft lobe lift Intake 7.168 exhaust 7.168) Sorry for all the figures but I got carried away with the technical training notes booklet I percured.

Those technical notes aren't very accurate, the GT's had 24lb injectors, a 65mm throttle body and the GT40 heads were just standard FMS GT40's.
Cam specs are 0.479" lift and 209@50th duration (270 adv) so it's not a big cam at all, just slightly bigger than stock. I would look more towards the Crane 2031 or 2030 cam's, much more power potential and will still run on the factory EEC. |

Sorry about the specks I was just reading them from the Ford new model introductory manual, and I have put my air meter up against a 75m throtle body and it was identical.

what you have to realise is, unlike the I-6 where you lift the rocker cover off and whip out the cam, the V8's are a lot more work to change the cam.
a cam in a V8 (windsor or clevo) isnt a "cheap mod" like the I6 cam change is |

Do it once do it properly. I wouldnt go from a HO to a cobra cam. As Grant said look into a 2030 or 2031(if you have 1.72rollers). I helped install a 2030 into a DC LTD and it made a huge diffrence to the way the car feels! However as Wayne noted its not a simple change, so its worth doing it properly!!
