Default In the market for a near new, just run in XC Cobra?

Just spotted this, supposedly with only 9000 kays on it since new.
Just goes to show, there are cars like this still out there.
One power ball and this is mine.

One of the photo's is a model XC cobra. The give away? The door hinge and how close the carpet is to the sill. Wouldn't a photo of the real cars interior be a better photo or is my line of thought off?

He says it this car was used for the basis of the Biante model, then says if you look closely you can see the number 166 on the glove box of the model car to show the car he's selling is the same as the model.
Boy talk about conspiracy theories.

Yeah I was going to mention that too, but I read the comments and he reckons the car is the model of all Biante cobra's? IDK sounds a little suss to me.

How is it sus?? He is selling car 166... and shows a model of the Biante model 166 on which his car is based on?

In other words if you buy this car... you can put your Biante model next to it and itll have nice matching numbers.

The only thing sus is the mileage!... How do you prove its not been wound back?

Serviced just once in 33 years? Ouchie. Would it even run?

The other possibility is that its been around the clock and they have sourced a new manual.

There are a number of people who hardly use thier cars...to the benefit of those of us willing to look around a bit.
Our 1982 Celica, when I bought it three years ago, had only 80,000km on the clock, after nearly thirty years, and still looks like a brand new car inside and out. Genuine "little old lady" car, who hardly drove it. My elderly mothers little 1996 121 Mazda has only 16,000km on it...

No reason some people wouldn't do the same with high-end performance cars.

I dont think that I'd put up any more photos than necessary because you know what dodgy scammers do with other peoples car photos online. If someone out there is interested, they should call him and get him to email some watermarked photos.

Default Re: In the market for a near new, just run in XC Cobra?

The car was owned by Trevor Young, owner of Biante Model Cars at the time. Trevor was known for buying time capsule cars, one of which was the blue A9X Torana with something like 50 k's on it (or less - still had the original tyres on it). He also owned number 30 of which the option 97 Cobra was based on, plus many other Aussie muscle cars. All of which either sat in the shed at their house or at the Belmont Biante office (#30 spent most of its time there). So it is of no surprise that the vehicle is a low kay unit.

With his passing, from cancer, his wife Bev sold the business plus all of the cars. I think the person who bought it back then, is the one selling it now. I am not sure but he may have bought #30 as well as if I remember correctly, he was/is a car collector of sorts.

Price wise, who knows but obviously it is not worth $135,000. Not only have we had the GFC, muscle car crash plus I think the biggest issue what is stopping any sort of 'good' sale price for these cars is that of the next big GFC starting in Europe and soon to follow in the US. In other words, people are saving their money, not spending it. Also, I think any real sort of appreciation has just dis-appeared. That is, if you were to buy a car such as this, you would to buy it for about $30,000 to $50,000 (crazy I know and I am only plucking these figures out of thin air but how do you value these cars now?????????) and then sit on until the next muscle car boom, if there is one. We had one in the mid 80's and then another from 2004 onwards.

So, buy it cheap, sit on it for 20 years and see how you go.

I’m just curious, why do people pay such an enormous amount of money for these old piles of junk (technically speaking when comparing to a new vehicle)?

I mean its supper slow, handles worse than an ice breaker, has 0 safety or fun features, 40 years behind on technology, and does not even look good at all???

Wash your mouth out. Having said that, it is over priced; hence it is still for sale.

A P-51 Mustang is around 60yrs old.... typically sells for $1.5 to 2Million...
At the end of WW2 they were bulldozed into the ground, not even worth the effort to scrap them. Technically speaking its a piece of 60yr junk....

Your on a car forum and you dont understand the value of a classic car/ vintage car?

Would you prefer to own a VP commodore? Its a piece of junk, yet every P plater seems to have one.. oh wait, its valueless...

hmmmmmm

Now taking bets on the most angry, frustrated, disbelieving replies to any posting ever on a car enthusaist message board...

Some people just prefer old cars, especially as a second car. In our driveway is a brand new G6E, but behind the house under a car cover awning is our 1982 Celica. I bought that with a plan in mind, deliberately, not just because it was a "cheap old car" (it wasn't cheap). I needed a car to go away from home to a train driver training school in Rocky (we lived in Bundy at the time) and the missus needed the other car. I set a budget, and could have gone and bought a nice little couple of year old Hynudai or Kia I suppose, and been bored to death travelling up and down the highway. But I said I wanted something with two doors, four cylinder, five speed manual, rear wheel drive, air con, and something "old and interesting". I tried to find good Gemini coupes (bugger all around anymore), two door Escorts (ditto), and early RX7's (expensive to maintain), and looked at other Celicas before finding ours.

Could I have bought something newer filled with airbags and ABS but as boring as bat guano, or I could have bought something a lot older with some charachter, potential for modification later on, and which is interesting and not like a dozen other in any given street. Why not go for something interesting and old?
Come to that, when we decided to get a ute, we also decided on "old and interesting" instead of a newer nice little Rodeo or Hilux or something, so now have a WB ute with GTS dash, mild 253 V8, and kitted auto sitting in the yard beside the house.

Hard to explain it to someone who just doesn't see any value in old cars I suppose...but at least I know i'd rather have this than a nice little Kia Rio...
