Default Going too fast on a race track!!

A couple of people have been clocked going to fast on Mt Panorama.

Just thought I post this up for anyone going up to the mountain, doing a couple of sedate laps & then speeding because they think there are no cops around.

One guy was clocked doing 189kmh on Conrod Straight

http://www.westernadvocate.com.au/ne...e/2278295.aspx

Another Learner motorcyle rider was clocked at 137 and 145km/hr also on Conrod

Your thread title reminded me of the time I was told to slow down at the local kart track. Weirdos.

Must have a pretty slow car if you can only manage 189km/h on Conrod. Just saying lol

There wasn't one, who know, probably unhappy because I'm fat and wore out their tyres cos I was sliding too much

And to the other dude, you missed the part in the article where he dramatically reduced speed when lazered, so he was going much faster

Do they have closed days where you can just hammer it as hard as you feel like it?

Lotsa people over the years that have thought Bathurst is a "race track", and not just a public road with all the road rules applying to it. I also know a few personally that have been caught by The Plod up there. Last I heard it was a 60kph limit over the top of the mountain, and even in a decent car it felt a lot quicker than 60kph around the corners.

Its 60 the whole track, Ive found that the hard way aswell.

There is a day that you can go up there & go flat out. Pretty expensive. but still cheaper than going to gaol & the fines. http://www.drivebathurst.com/

They also do Hillclimbs & supersprints there on various parts of the track. a few times a year.

I did a hillclimb from forrest elbow to skyline last weekend, great fun & only cost $120 to go as fast as you can.

http://s1092.photobucket.com/albums/...828_113738.mp4

I think they should have more days where anyone can go & drive fast. But sadly people live there so its hard to have alot of them. Plus the track is very dangerous for a beginner, there are lots of walls.

There was a regularity trial up there a few years ago that I was looking at doing, but you had to have other racing experience before you could enter because they didnt want first timers up there going flat out.

"Shane Andrew Stratton, 28, of Grand Parade, Glossodia, in north-west Sydney, appeared before Magistrate Doug Dick on Monday, charged with dangerous driving."

Did they really need to state his address in a news article?

They ought to close off the track and do a setup like the Nurburg Ring, where you can do laps on it anytime its not being used for a gazetted event.
The council could probly get a nice little earner out of it too..

So did the coppers go after them after they were clocked or they just get it in the mail as usual...

This speeding down conrod straight is deadly is a crock. Its an insane quality ''road'', thick barricades on both sides and usually no people to hit (depends when you choose to speed if theres any around or not).

Nothing more than a mass money grab. How many people (non motorsport) have died on conrod or crashed while at speed?

What a shameful system, a joke compared to the rest of the world. Bloody joke.

Er.. its a gazetted road isnt it?

I.e. its open to farmer bob driving his tractor around who has lived there for decades... and everyone else.

How is it a money grab when they are clearly breaking the law??

very true - and i would doubt there are many car enthusiasts that have not heard that there are cameras on the track and the police regularly patrol it. the speed was stupid, but knowing there was a fairly good chance of getting caught, makes it even dumber. total contempt for the law and safety

Yes, it was a public road before it was a race track. There are a number of residents and businesses who's only road out is the circuit, so it would be impossible to run it as a public use closed track while they are there (and hey, if you had a property on Mount Panorama, would you ever sell it?)

Because something is law doesnt mean its right. Stupid fool i hear you say? Yep ok.

If farmer bob takes his tractor out, one would not go 180 past. Same if there are others infront and to the side. Also there are only driveways up till the dip, i dont recall any more till pit lane.
I dont advocate going 180...thats too much even for me.

I really dont agree with much of the current authorities attitudes towards speeding and their managment and desicions.
Imo theres a max safe limit for a road dependant on conditions, traffic and all other variables. This can differ from that number on a sign.
Though having said that i dont constantly exceed the signposted limit.....

Im clearly against them...make of my posts as you wish..

Its a public road.. there are farms and driveways all over the place.
Its a gazetted road, meaning ITS NOT a racetrack.

Sure yes the 60kmg speed limit is probably stupid, but since this is a famous track and everyone dreams about doing a lap around can you imagine how many morons would end up out there going hell for leather without giving a damn as to who they kill.

Does the average idiot motorist out there (those who i label hoons) have any real skill to tackle that track on a track day if they decide to actually close it do such a thing? The answer would be a resounding NO....

These types of morons only do it just to get their rocks off because they are breaking the law... it makes them feel big in the pants. (today good example im doing 110km in a 100zone... P plater overtakes doing 130, do you think he cares? No experience.. no brains.)

If they want to kill themselves good for them... but the problem is its PUBLIC road and they will not doubt kill others as well.. including their mate beside them.

The judge isn't the one who laid the charge of dangerous driving.
In Victoria at least, a charge of dangerous driving carries a mandatory sentence of imprisonment.

Have a look at it on Google Earth, you might be surprised just how many properties there are around the track.
