Hi all, whats the best form of self defence for a 9 or 10 year old to learn? It appears there are many different forms out there to choose from but I have no idea which one to choose. Any advice from people who know would greatly be appreciated.
Many thanks

one that he is likely to enjoy, benefit from and make friends in.
I enjoyed boxing, that's always a good backup for life skills, tai Kwondo (or whichever way to spell it)..... Karate, if you are ever attacked by mean looking lumps of wood. take a look around with the lad at what is available, sit in on some, check out the instructors, ask the young feller which one "is for him".

Ever thought about Krav maga? Its based around realistic street type scenarios, my sister has been doing it to some success and she found it rather good, albiet she is an adult though but its some form of feedback.

I have taught Tae kwon do (foot fist way) for @15 years so a little bit biased but its good for kids they learn much more than self defence if tought the traditional way. Respect, honour and dicipline easy taught the more you talk out of turn the more push ups you get they catch on real fast. Fitness is another area of improvement. Good basic self defence through to Blackbelt then you start to learn more advanced stuff.
For youngsters look at Rhee taekwondo, (no competitions) classes everywhere and Master Rhee does all the gradings that is an experience in its self. Adults would prefer ITF as its more tournament oriented (inter club, national and international competitions) and more philosophical in its approach.
