Default Burnout Car - VK (Shock/Horror)

Ok so my stepdad bought a VK commodore for $40 for the sole purpose of using the radiator, and he is only keeping it as a spare, which means that he really doesnt care much about the rest of the car.

So I reckon I can get the use of it as a burnout car.

The question is how to modify it to make it into a skid car.

Currently the car has a black 202 (with extra blowby), a 350 holley, a tri-matic auto, and no brake master cylinder.

Unfortunately due to the copious amounts of blowby, the engine will probably make more smoke than the tyres, and will need to be repaired/replaced. We have a red 202 (tri-matic as well) and extractors to suit a HQ style engine bay, so that will most likely make its way in.

The exhaust will be a simple side dump from the extractors, and I will find a way to put the holley on the red motor. The master cylinder will be replaced (albeit with no rear brakes connected), and of course the diff will be locked.

Does anyone have any other ideas as to what else I could do?

oh yeah, and any cheap ideas that relate to more power will also be accepted.

well, me liking tyre smoke so much, I am likely to do a skid no matter what. And doing a two-wheel burnout in a cheap car, legally on a proper burnout pad beats the **** out of doing a single-wheeler on the street, and getting fined after I break my diff and can't drive away.

that and it gives me something to do with my spare time.

Go for it, as you said its better to do it in another car legally and it wont matter if it breaks. It may be a bit rich for the purpose but a manual conversion may aid your tyre shredding ability.

ditch rear brakes. drop in the new motor with a decentish cooling system. Ditch the exhaust (if they allow it)

otherwise, find a not too stuffed 253/308 and drop that in

Get a V8 for like $300 out of the trading post, spool the diff. Big radiator as mentioned.

V8 auto, no rear brakes, dual exhaust exiting into rear wheel wells to help pump out the smoke(it works)

should be a balltearer

i agree with the exhaust into wheel wells... and big radiator an a pair of thermos. and engine fan if you put front mounted thermos

Oh and if your sneaky put two windscreen washer jets facing just in front of the rear tyres in the wheel arches an hook up some lines to get the wheels spinning constantly no matter how sticky the pad (dont admit to it though)

lol, sounds similar to my project. although the vk i got my hands on is a efi. so far i've put bigger injectors, disconnected back brakes, fitted engine and trans oil coolers. spins so easily. going to make an exhaust at work using a 2 1/2 pipe.

another thing i forgot to mention...it has to be LOUD to get the crowd excited, especially if its a V8.....theres nothing worse than a dead quiet car trying to rip a burnout....all you hear is tyre squeel

no muflers...at least twin 2.5" straight exhaust out into the wheel wells......

yeah, we have a spare 308 to suit a HQ-style engine bay backed by a TH-400. Its seized though. maybe a week of diesel down the pots will fix that.

then I will need a tailshaft though too, as a traumatic backed six isnt likely to be the same length as a turbo back V8...

yeah, exhaust will be minimal. I was thinking of the rear wheel jets. anyone know of a suitable fluid?

you could just use water from the washer tank but what works really well is bleach go and rub some between your fingers right now, and you will notice how much traction breaking power it really has.

not a good idea to weld the diff!!! as it will crack....

get some lead (heaps) melt it in a pot over the bbq and when hot poor it into your spider gear housing on the gears etc......once its cooled down you will have a very strong locked diff and it costed sweet **** all ;) plus its real hard to break ....

the way I weld diffs is to remove the spider gears (the ones not attached to the axle), and weld the gears that are on the axle to the housing nice and solid. none have broken yet (plenty of axles in FWD cars though). Most people just weld all the spider gears together with whatever tacking they can get connecting them to the housing...

but I like the lead idea. know what kind of shops would let me have diff-full of lead for next to nothing?

My cousin had a vn burnout car and used the windscreen washer bottle to spray water onto the radiator. Made heaps of difference to how long the car could be on the rev limiter

You could also use the washer to squirt water on the back wheels. I'm not sure about using other liquids like detergent. I don't think the burnout people like you using anything other than water.

Also if you plan on having a passenger all the time, wire the temp guage and a button for him/her to control the radiator sprays. Leaves you to concentrate on the circle work.

yeah... or I could just hook it up to a temperature switch. I think they can be had pretty cheap. Ill have a look now.

and have a button for the rear tyres... I cant have that on all the time.
