Default Has anyone added a turbo to a 2.0Lt Duratec

Has anyone added a turbo to a 2.0Lt Duratec engine if so what did you do? a how much did it cost? and what gains did you get??[/SIZE]

Slightly trailing... but Mazda should be shortly with the new MPS2. 2.0 Duratec Turbo, 172kW 313Nm. 1050kg. In the same chassis as a Fiesta...

there are turbo kits in the US (which you could probably get imported to AUS) try www.focussport.com or alternatively you could create on yourself for much less.

All you need is most probably:

small t25/t28 turbo ($500 from jap parts importer)
custom piping cost about another 500
Turbosmart Eboost 2 (boost controller, about 700bucks)
SCT flash (to tune your ECU 400bucks)
intercooler (depends on what you get and from ware)
Custom dump pipe about 500 bucks

install and a tune.

you are most likely to see about AT least 130FWKW, more if you do exhaust.

so there ya go. (btw i rounded up rather than down, so you MAY find the prices may vary and be cheaper, just depends on how good a haggler you are and how resourcefull and how mechanically minded you are.) ohh the more you do yourself the cheaper it is.

2.0 Duratec's stock rods are safe to about 8-9PSI.

There is someone in Hong Kong who's done this over a year ago to their Foc.

Surely you'd want to lower the compression too? 10.8:1 isn't too boost friendly.

spot on mr fairmont... lower comp ratios would be top of my list - low 9s/high 8s would probably let you run 8psi with a great deal of comfort.. a chunkier head gasket would probably do the trick, low comp pistons would be overkill.

not neccesarily,

You can happily run 7psi on the stock engine without any modifications apart from a tune.

if you want to put your mind at ease you can add a decomp plate or a pistons. but 7psi on stock engine is absoultely FINE.

faaark... the kit alone is going to be $10 000 before it's even fitted... better off selling and buying an XR5 for that sort of cash

You are better off buying the kit from the U.S atleast it is all custom made,no guess work and it all fits.

Personally, I'm with Uni, you're better off selling and getting an XR5 Turbo. At least that way you also get an extra cylinder and 0.5L!!!! Plus, a few simple modifications on the XR5 can turn it into a pretty brutal car, even more than it is stock.

Not really, the SCT flash box won't work with our ECUs, you'll need a custom tune from Dreamscience/CAPA (both SCT flash distributors).

Also its been reported by a Mazda3 owner that the custom exhaust manifold does not have clearance for the RHD steering rack.

Hi there! Saw you guys have had a look at our Turbo Kit. I don't want to go into it too much as I expect you're not allowed to advertise on the forum, but just for your information the price quoted there is actually for it fitted as it states. Even so at the current exchange rate it's about AUS$8700
Obviously if we're not fitting it (unless you guys fancy bring your car over LOL!) it will be less.
The Dreamscience unit used for mapping is actually an SCT unit, but rebadged for the European market under an international trade agreement.
Hope that clears some of it up for you guys, it's not quite as expensive as it may have first looked!

Another thing to remember if doing it properly. XR5 Turbo gets extra airbags, bigger brakes, bigger rims, better tyres, better steering rack, stiffer/lower suspension, better interior, better bodykit, factory exhaust, bigger engine, extra gear ratio.... and a factory warranty. That's a lot extra already included. If doing a Turbo install on your Zetec, consider at least better brakes and tyres to keep it on the road before any crazy bodykits or other bolt ons!
