Default big pussy

hey, has anyone discussed the big cat in gippsland that was shot in June yet??

i have seen it on 2 occasions, finally some REAL solid proof that it really IS, or.... WAS out there.

I think that There has to be more than 1 though, since i have seen them about 150Km apart and one was bigger than the other!

anyone else seen the cats?

cheers
Rob

I saw one a few years ago up in Stawell, Vic. Was about 100metres from it and could certainly tell by the way if moved it was feline and very big.

The only thing I find a little strange about the picture above is why the animal's head missing. Surely it would prove beyond all doubt it was a cat.

In the story the guy said the bullet he used went through it's shoulder and blew it's head off

I believe they are out there, there are 2 main stories about it- 1 being the US army had Puma's for mascots during WWII training in Gippsland and the Grampians and set them free when it was over, andthe other being a group escaped from a zoo. The army one sounds more feasable as they did actually bring some out here

The guy said he didnt want to make a big fuss about it, but I do find it strange that he took a few photo's and dumped the carcass in the river, maybe they should look for the bones. Some animal experts dont believe him, one said it's just a big feral and another said he stood far away in the shot so the cat looked bigger...lol

I have not seen this cat, and I don't want to either. I've been up that way a couple of times, and if I did happen to run into this beast.. you'd see who the real 'pussy' really is!!!!!

In three weeks time, we'll know more about this beast. DNA samples have been taken from the tail that was cut off by the shooter.

i dont know what they are called.... but the bullets that most deer hunters use, make a SMALL entrance wound and a HUGE exit wound. i can get some pics of my brothers deer hunting photos which show this.
This would explain to me why the head is all messy, the bullet entered in the shoulder and exited the face of the cat.

Does anyone else find it funny that when ever some "proof" comes up, the critics just HAVE to try and explain how it CANT be what it is said to be??

for instance remember a few years ago there was actualy VIDEO footage of the panther/puma stalking a wallaby up at mansfield, But they still somehow came up with a way to "prove" it was just a BIG CAT....
:

i just wish i had my camera with me on both occasions!!!!

I ues to shoot all the cats at the tip in Alexandra years ago. The bigget one i shot was 6 foot from nose to tip of tail. I would say yes its a big cat but not this Panther bull. I I have hunted all over the high country after deer and have never in all my life seen anything like it. I have seem plenty of big feral cats and bloody big feral dogs but never any panther. I just think it funny that it has been over four months since he shot this thing, if it was me i would have told anyone who would listen. I will what until the DNA test come back.

What proof do you have Rodders. My father was in the army at that time and was based with the yanks, and he never saw any big cats in the whole time he was with them. And that was five years. I use to use a 375 magnum on deer and never had any loose there head. for the amount of damage that thing had it was shot in the head. You could not get that from a sholder shot.

i was reading this article as well. it does seem a little sus that he dumped the body and also the pic he took of the cat hanging is sus too. if you shot something that big, wouldnt you stand NEXT to it? seemed pretty close to the camera. but the tail does look pretty big though so im gonna wait the 3 weeks and find out . i still have my doubts though.
on the topic of strange things, about 6 years ago when i was going from Warrnambool to Ballarat, a Thylacine ran out across the road in front of the car. whether or not it was pure bred i have no idea but it sure had the same markings as one and definately wasnt a dog or a fox.
anyway, thats another urban legend to think about.

6 feet long, holy crap!
Was it just a cat... or was it a bit more than just a cat.. if ya know what i mean?

I guess the DNA tests will prove SOMETHING hey?!

The big cat's i have seen, dont look like cats though... i mean the lap cat kind.
This thing was long, it had a FAT head, huge arms and legs and looooong tail.
and was JET BLACK... you cant get blacker than how black this was!

It is kinda fishy that this bloke didnt come forward a little sooner with his photos and story, but he probably has his own reasoning for it.

my story is:

We were walking along a 4X4 track up in gippsland on the 90 mile beach side....

we came around a corner and my dog started going NUTS barking and crying.. as soon as bubbles ( my dog ) started, this thing jumped up from the middle of the track from between the bracken ( the stuff that burns really well when dried out) and got out of there in a flash!
We didnt even see it until it got up and jumped off the track, pretty much one big jump and it was gone.

needless to say, i spent the rest of our day scrapin out my undies!

'The yanks' were all over Australia, I assume then he was everywhere at once?

The so called Panther was a legend has it was released from there base at Albury. Which is the base he was at. As i said what proof have people got, no one i know from up at Albury remember them having big cats with them. There have never been any photos of these big cat from that time period or for that fact the Americans them selfs have come out an said they never bought any with them. I would like to know how it all started though.

I wonder how the myths all started too, they sound pretty logical though, but then, if you say the yanks never brang puma/panther/big-cats over here then, i guess that rubs that one out.

is it possible that the feral cats have somehow bred with other bigger feral cats and had offspring that are just stupidly big?

Yeah, their solitary hunters, will travel quite a few km to find a mate.

Quite a few sus things about that photo - he is standing quite a distance behind the cat - he's got his bike in between them to start with.

Likewise, as other people said, funny he went so quiet about it - you would think that if you actually had proof of your kill of a bloody big cat, then you'd just throw the carcus up at the local newspaper/NPWS office.

To be honest, if they do exist, and I believe they probably do, I'd like them to be left alone, even though they are a pest, there is a certain romance and mystery in having a big cat in the Australian wilderness.

And besides, if they do capture or shoot all the panthers, what's going to keep the Yowie population in check?

My old man and his mates have seen the Blue Mountain's one a couple of times - well a very very big black cat. Their a bunch of accountant's so it would probably be a bit out of character for them to over-exagerate this one.

i know what i saw, and no one can say otherwise. i know that 99% wont believe me and that is fine, but i am not the only one to have seen a Thylacine in Vic, just as many hundred of people have seen a big cat in the mountains.
only the DNA tests will confirm this one.
is it a feral cat family that has adapted over the last 50 years or is it a real Puma that has adapted to the cliamte? it sure seems fury to me for a Puma, but then again thats what adaptation does to an animal i guess. it does get cold in Victoria in winter.
all i can say though is if this guy is having a laugh about shooting anything other than a Puma, he's going to be the laughing stock of this country.
*i still dont think its all its made out to be*

Everyone up here in the mountains has heard of the legend/myth, and it sounds very similar to what others have said here! A panther escaped from the circus in the late 50s and is still roaming around here, somewhere...

When I was younger (all those years ago! lol) my boyfriend's friends came back from a weekend camping trip near Narrow Neck (Katoomba) looking VERY shaken. They claim they were sitting at the campfire eating dinner, and were rather quiet because they were feeling so tired. One of them got the feeling of being watched and alerted the other two with a whisper... there was a huge cat sitting at the very edge of the campsite, just watching them.

They say that in the sitting position it was in, it measured about the height of one of them (5'7")... it just sat for a minute while they were freaked out, wondering wtf to do, when it got up, turned and ran off. They freaked out even more because they DIDN'T HEAR IT MOVE it was so quiet.

Yet again, in the mountains we have had many sightings of a Yowie. We even have a Yowie Hunter (I think his name's Rex Gilroy)... he has castings of footprints found around here and photographic evidence apparently.

All this talk reminds me of the Beast of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, given the right conditions it can be a very spooky place & has you looking over your shoulder at the slightest noise :

The myth of the Gippsland big cat(s) is that it is a black panther and it(they) escaped from a travelling circus. I 100% agree with John, the army myth is just that a myth! I struggle to believe the circus myth either.

I have lived in Gippsland since I was 5 years old, and have been riding dirt bikes and such in the remote wilderness here for years, camping etc. These "big cats" are only cats, no two ways about it. They do grow bloody big considering their bloodlines trace back to a domestic cat, but I assure you that's all they are!!!

btw, the photo makes the cat only look 3 foot long at best.... just another feral domestic cat!

Well the latest I heard on the radio last night....

DNA = domestic cat
Check the photo, no one standing next to it for perspective
Bullet blew a Pumas entire head off? Hmmm, a mortar maybe, a rifle I'm thinking not.
Body disposed of? Most important find to either prove or disprove a myth and you throw it away? Um right................

Dodgey as
