Hi all, I'm weighing up my options and considering a MD Titanium although I'm a bit nervous about the quality now that they're putting them together in Spain (I think??)
Has anyone with the new MD model had any issues? |

in what way?
it's way to early to tell but fit and finish is as you'd expect....well built and no fitment issues. Not one electrical glitch nor mechanical issue. It drives so nice, it's a place I want to be in. Though the vehicle has just under 2K kms. |

They built a brand new plant in Spain to make the new model. Ford have been making cars there for many years.
I wouldn't worry, in fact I'd expect quality to be better as the old factory in Belgium was apparently way past its Use By date.

Not mine, my folks, MD 2015 Titanium. I've only done a few hundred K's in it but have gone over it with a keen eye as my folks weren't available to be there to pick it up. OS fifo with 6-8mths waiting. They almost pulled the pin and went elsewhere but they argued enough to get one from a dealer in Melbourne that sat there in the showroom.

There have been stories like this for years on AFF. Ford AU really need to get over it and realise what a good car the Mondeo is.
There are quite a few new models on the road in NZ, and they are certainly a great looking car.

No issues with mine so far ( done nearly 10k ) A/C performance is excellent on these toasty Melbourne 40°C days

Thanks mate. I'd be looking at the MD Titanum EB too (I drove a TDCI Trend a few months ago and found is reasonably sluggish). What fuel figures are they getting and will I have to use either 95 or 98 octane (or can i get away with 91 without ethanol)?

Seems strange that a TDCi would feel sluggish. But I doubt that any turbo would be happy on 91 - they are Euro engines intended for 95 minimum.

When I got my new focus I used to stall it backing out the driveway quite a lot and it's power delivery was like a light switch when it came on boost because it would barely go without the turbo helping things out. By about 10 thousand or so it had become impossible to stall and went like the clappers.

I tend to only use either Caltex Vortex or BP Ultimate Diesel. I have heard stories of people using different Diesels and getting poor performance and economy. In saying that with around 10k on the clock and about 80% of my driving on open roads i'm getting 5.8 L per 100km's according to the Trip Computer. |

My 2.3 MA petrol was delivered with a full tank of 91. That was the only time it was ever run on 91!

* See, this is another concern I have. I can spend $50K at a Ford dealer (on a MD Titanium) and get treated like crap, or spend the same amount (or even less) at a Volvo or VW dealer and be worshiped like a God. Same with an entry level Benz or BMW. *shakes head* |

It's interesting to see that Ford are a lot more popular in NZ than they are in Australia. Maybe the dealers are a big factor?

I'm sure that's part of it. Also, the ride and handling balance of the Ford range seems to suit our poor quality country roads. I haven't driven another car that I would prefer to my MB wagon.

why does it need to?
Premium is Premium, 95-98 ULP (Regular Unleaded) 91 no doubt it's elaborated on in the Owners Manual but ULP or PULP is as simple as it gets. Might need a lil more brain power to process but it's straightforward. |

We buy petrol by octane rating here. ULP is unleaded petrol and could be 91, 95 or 98.

It's not perfect. If I'm really picky, the silver plastic trim that runs all the way around the centre stack looks and feels a bit cheap, and the tailgate and front bumper alignment may be slightly off, build quality of the MD is, in my view, way better than anything else Ford has done in recent history.
I've signed the papers today for a new MD Titanium Ecoboost hatch, subject to my satisfactory inspection when the car arrives. I'll be going over it with a fine toothcomb before deciding whether or not to accept delivery.

It's just different terminology. If you told someone in NZ to fill their car with PULP, they'd have no idea what you were talking about. Our vehicle specs always state the octane.
Ford in the US specify 87 octane, but 91 for best performance. They use a different method to determine octane, and our 91 is about the same as the US 87. Merry Christmas everyone.

i took Delivery of my new Company Car in mid August, MD Mondeo Ambiente TDCI Wagon in Deep Impact Blue. To date I have done 32000 km without any Problems.
Panel Fit and Finish is very good but I have seen some examples where the Tailgate doesn't line up very well. Paint is very good. No Rattles but there is a consistent Squeak inside the Front Door Trim, can be a bit annoying. Engine has loosened up now but was very tight in the beginning. The Steering is not as direct and communicative as in my MB and MC. No Problems with the Interior Fit and Finish but the Silver Trim looks and feels a bit cheap. I miss my Wheel Backrest Adjustment, as it now has a Lever. The Suspension is softer than it was in my MB Titanium or MC LX, but in return it is so much more quiet and compliant over rough Surfaces. One Design Fault I discovered is, that when you have the Centre Vents turned up all the Way, Phone Conversations sound like I am in a Wind Tunnel. the Air blows straight into the Microphones in the Roof Console. they need to be turned down half way. Air Con works much better than in previous Models. Average Fuel Use is 6-7l in Sydney Traffic. Space out back is also a bit tighter than before but all in all, I would get one if I had to pay for it [I would get a Titanium though in Panther Black] cheers and Merry Christmas

I don't live in NZ and I don't live in China I live in AUS. and here if you said ULP or PULP everyone is on the same page, on the flip side if you put a mars bar in the oven we Aussies don't have a clue what you're on about. Merry Christmass fordforums.com.au |
