A turbo fitting company that used to be in Bayswater vic used to fit VC, VH commodores with the carb turbo's including the 4cyl starfire mtrs. I'am not sure but they might have been a option that some dealers were offering and giving warranties on. Penfold Mazda had the option of fitting aftermart turbo's to the 1982/83 929 MA mtr's and I think they did that work as well.

The carb turbo's (zenith or stromberg) had the external wastgate with water and metho injection, plus they used a decompression plate and two head gaskets.

or even a turbo 202, the vl's only came out with 150kw, and a manual ea can stay with them.

are they VC bonnet vents or just paint?
makes you wonder why, if these were dealer options, no one ever hears of them or ever sees them for sale. surely there must be a few of these cars kickin around the streets?

Times were different turbo's were starting to become fashionable.
The falcon had put the Honda designed head on the XD's and holden had a old gutless gas guzzler iron head .

A friend of mine purchased a 1982 Mazda 929 coupe new and only brought it as the demo one had a turbo fitted that the dealer had taken him for a test drive. It went very well outperforming the 308 holden mtr and 302 ford mtrs at that time. It had to go back to penfolds for a service and a service guy mentioned to him that some Holden dealers were having the turbo kit fitted to the 4 & 6 commodors. I have that turbo kit in my garage as the seals went on the turbo so I put it back to non turbo for him to sell the car off.

It was all in response to the supercar scare of the late 70's. Holden were thinking of dropping the V8, much like Ford did for a time there. Mitsibishi had the Sigma turbo which had the draw thru carb set-up. I'd hate to think of the life expectancy of one of these motors, given that most people can't even provide enough fuel to their motor with an EFI set-up.

There's a VH in the east gippsland area that's a turbo six. I'm assuming it's a 202.

Ford *almost* put the Astron II 2600 (from the Sigma) into their XD lineup! We nearly had a Falcon Four...
