Yeah seen em before. Though I have to wonder how small the rim has to be for the design to work. I wouldn't imagine it working on a 19 inch rim.

IMO they will be either to 'flat' and you would destroy rims on hard bumps etc or they will be to hard and the ride will be loud and rough
also wonder what the life expectancy would be of the middle bits (rubber or plastic whatever they are) and the tyre in general? My 2c

These are the Michelin Tweel. Those photos were released quite a while ago, there was also some video comparing normal tyres to the tweel on that audi.
I wonder how the wind noise would be through those 'spokes'. |

In a conventional tyre we have the luxury of being able to adjust our tyre pressures for load variation and terrain etc.
Obviously not possible for these hideous things. The photos look like the interior of a "run flat" tyre, but I'm probably wrong.

Looks like they'd be good for drag racing with all that squat. The equivalent of running a tyre very flat, only the bonus is that once up and moving they will instantaneously go back to shape and their designed "pressure" as well. To bad they're ugly as sin.

I think I remember reading in a Michelin press release, that they would cover the sides up with a "sidewall" so they looked more normal.
I still dont see them getting it to work with any other rim size than shown, would start getting real hard. |

Yeah I remember seeing these years and years ago. Well before I had a licence. Don't see it catching on any time soon.

As soon as I looked at the pics, they are obviously missing the sidewall for testing purposes. There would be nothing wrong with these tyres for a daily hack. I certain,y don't need to adjust my tyre pressure up or down 5Psi on the way to work in stop start traffic. Nore would 99% of the other road users. |

A run flat does not have this sort of system. Run flats have a thicker and stronger side wall that in the event of the tyre going flat will hold shape better and allow the car to be driven at reduced speed. The tyre does still go down a lot, just not enough to be completely flat. I have had to drive the Mini with a rear flat, it is aweful. The cars squirms a lot as they have a lot of sidewall flex, it feels like driving with a very soft conventional tyre.

I like it. I'm assuming the final product would look no different to what we have now. They would just put a wall on it. Either way, if they made this the basis for a run-flat, I'd buy a set.
