I can at least confirm two things.

One it is not a cougar,

two the probe ran a japanese ecu from memory.

i did some seaching and found this
http://www.mx-3.com/phpbb2/viewtopic...9303867ce64b7a

In the first message the person goes on about the KL84 ECU being "a probe one".... weird..

Didn't the the Mazda's and Probes share some components, coz i found that the MX-5 has an ecu also by Denso.

I wouldn't wipe it off that quick, expecially with that info that cougar boy posted. I am wondering if this picture I have found is for the 2.0l probe which was the I4 motor, it would not surprise me if that were the case as often in the UK there most common engine spec is the smaller engine.

I think do some more searching, but I can confirm that the v6 model number was 'KL' so there is still a lot of potential that it is for the probe.

Just a question though, why do you want a probe ecu??

Not the best one for aftermarket tuning by any stretch??

Found some more info here. http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3406
The 2.5L probe engine is the same as the ones in the MX-6 and has the KL ecu. I'm not sure about the numbers though in the rest of the ecu number.

KL - V6 piston engine/2.5 litre
Mazda MX6
Mazda 626/Capella/Cronos/Efini MS-6
Mazda Eunos 800/Xedos 9
Autozam Clef/Efini MS-8
Ford Probe
Ford Telstar/TX5

Oh....

As cougar boy said it is for the v6 probe/mazda mx6. Must be a picture some where that confirms it on that site. Worth having a search, on there in their photo gallery.

This seems to indicate that the kl84 ecu is a probe based ecu.

a bit of an update i emailed denso and got this reply (you need to start at the bottem)..

Hi Chris

I have got some info from DENSO USA, however not sure how useful this will
be to you:

The only information shown on spec. screen was the following: Model =
JTQE50 / Vehicle Type = J45S.

TN 079700-4502 = Computer Assy, Fuel Injection (OE P/N = KL8418881B) as the
Customer = TD (Auto Alliance International Inc. USA).

TN before this P/N means part made at Tennessee (TN) plant in USA.

Kind regards

Hello Chris

I am having a bit of trouble with this one. The part is apparently made in
the USA. Most of our dealings are direct with Japan. I have gone to Denso
USA to try and get some information for you.

Please bear with me.

Kind regards

Actually, that info is extremely useful. A simple search for Auto Alliance International Inc. USA brought up this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto_Alliance

In short, these are their products...

* 1988–1997 Mazda MX-6
* 1989–1997 Ford Probe
* 1990–2002 Mazda 626
* 1999–2002 Mercury Cougar
* 2003–present Mazda6
* 2005–present Ford Mustang

now, as you said, that model was from 1994, which means that it had to be on either the MX-6 or the probe, and since they had the same engine, Bob's your auntie i reckon!
