I saw this and contemplated linking it, I found it quite amusing.
Almost as amusing as watching Fire Trucks last night on Foxtel at a friend's place, trying to find out whether a British or American one is better at certain things like acceleration :P

It has come to my attention that some of the buses used throughout the CBD have been undertaking in some "hoon" style activities. Being an avid car fan myself, I find it absolutely appalling that bus drivers can get away with this type of behaviour, considering all the laws that have been bought into place to try and stamp it out with your average driver in so called "performance" vehicles. However, I write this letter not in total disgust, as I have some questions which I am hoping either you, or the transport office, can answer 1) What is the average quarter-mile time for these commuter buses? 2) What level of boost are they running? 3) What modifications have been done to these buses to improve their times? I look forward to your response. Riksta. And yes, if it happened in South Australia, I would be writing this letter to the transport minister. If anyone in NSW would like to cut & paste it, modify anything slightly & put their name to it and send it, go ahead on one condition - you scan the reply you get and post it up for us!

well apparently the buses are bloody fast considering what their size.
they run big turbo's and are geared to go to a max speed of 90 (if i remember correctly) someone once told me they did 0-60 in 6 seconds or something with no passengers. not sure if thats accurate at all but they do get up and go when they want to. plus they have airbag suspension lowrider |

At least they tried to keep the report semi realistic, I didn't see the word "burnout" or "donut" mentioned anywhere.

Buses are slow... and all are speed limited, either by virtue of modern gadgetry, by the fact that they are old and have the aerodynamics of a brick, or they simply run out of revs.
Even if a bus was taking off at full throttle, even the most mediocre car could still kick its butt. And as for the top speed runs, that is pointless as you will hit top speed on many normal suburban areas anyway (ie freeways). This story is a total load of ****. Its good to see that no one here really takes this crap seriously. How about we go down to the local Westfield and get out cameras out for oldies in Electric Wheelchairs having "drag races" in the mall! Oh all the pedestrians! The pain! Or perhaps its those little welcome wagon things they have at Westfield? I'm sure they will go hard!

actually yes they should crack down on speeding bussies.. a speeding bussy caused me to vomit up all the booze i had drunk one night(not in the bus ofcourse, i made him stop) and resulted in me walking home at 4 in the morning or somthing cuz he drove off... and him getting bashed up by a guy i had met that night cuz he was being an (the bussie that is.. stupid bussies..)
anyways, yeah, taxi drivers are the real problem, they think they have the same rights as bus drivers, pullin out of nowhere, turning left from the right lane etc.. bunch of dangerous c%%ts

I think a lot of the busses that do the T-Way stuff are Mercs or Scanias. There are some Volvos (long live the 9.6L I6 B10M!!!) with the 12.1L engine I think, all very nice buses. Out of all three, the Mercs are probably the crappiest.
I was comming home on a bus from Epping Station one night, and we had a Maori bloke up front, I reckon he was a deadset legend, but he did about 107 or 108 down Carlingford road. At first I couldn't believe it, but then as I was digging into a pie at Mascott one day (as you do) I heard a bus revving, and then chirping the tires as it pulled out. Hrmm... Both these were Government Buses too (the blue and white ones). I've even been on buses where even 60+ drivers are gunning it here there and everywhere. Having said that, cabbies are definitely more of a problem. The reason I say that is because bus drivers don't fall asleep at the wheel, pump the accelerator, pump the brakes, put buses into park at 30km/h, veer into other lanes whilst asking where Parramatta is, or any other things that can be considered dangerous. Watch Today Tonight on Monday for your bout of laughter on cabbies! |

well, they complain about buss being late...
If these drivers really need to experiance some racing, they should do it off the street, 2 buses side by side at busturst, now that would be a sight to see, thats is if they can get around forest elbow (no doubt ABUSCO will not sanction articulated buses). And arn't these buses the ultimate sleeper? Just think about it, bruz and cuz pull up besides Trev, who gives the Volvo a rev, this excites bruz in his excel, thinking he has this one netted...only to be flogged buy a bus carrying a heap of beautiful ladies, who piont and laugh at him. Of Course the laws going to nab them, road side checks (thats not standard sir) Undermarked busses with Jetpiolet Stickers pull up agianst 1/4 mile happy drivers and instigate a race. The sad thing will be when the goverment cracks down. -No passangers after 11pm -No turbos -No Phones or CB's even hands free you just never know.
