Yeah, my EAII (January 1990) Ghia has central locking but not keyless entry. It is not smartlock.
My parent's 1993 (I forget which month) EBII GLi has smartlock (includes keyless entry). Both cars have very different styles of locks. As the smartlock uses rolling codes, it has a fatter style of key and a very different looking ignition barrel. On the other hand, my car has a thinner key, that if it wasn't for the Ford logo would probably look like a normal house key or something like that. I've also seen an EBII without keyless entry.

Some true facts:
EB2 cars are 2/92 onward smartlock was introduced 10/92 so thats a whole 8 months of no smartlock in EB2 not 2 weeks as was stated above. Rollin you've got a pretty rare ecu there. That will plug in and run an ea/eb car. not much chance of picking up a: 1:non smartlock, 2:xr6 and 3:manual ecu I wouldn't say your unlucky. and rob my car is 5/92 last time I looked the 5th month was may. you might want to get a refund on your tiwanese calander ;)

OK. Sorry about that, I thought that was part of the deal. How did it improve security over non-smartlock cars then? I've read somewhere, when Ford were developing smartlock, they got a heap of experienced thieves to try and break in to them (without smashing windows or anything). None of them could get the better of the car. Interesting concept indeed, whether they just borrowed the crims from jail or what, I wouldn't have a clue.
