Hey all,
Just wondering what Id need to do to store my car. Im going o.s. for a couple of years and my cars not going atm. The main things I need kept in good condition are the engine/turbo, auto and diff. It doesn't start and it has no radiator. Would i need to put oil down the cylinders and corosion inhibitor in the engine (if I block it up)? What would I need to do to the auto and diff as they are still in the car? I would also like to keep the interior in good condition as well, I have shades inside the car to stop the sun light but im thinking of something that would stop moisture in there. It wont have a car cover over it either. Im not worried about the body. What would you guys suggest on storing it? Cheers! |

id fill the engine with diesel... at a place i worked we had old ppl goin round australia for 2 years and they wanted to know what to do with the engine.... my boss said diesel was the go... seal all the lines on the auto and just fill it with atf... diff i dunno and id be inclined to remove the turbo and seal it in an air tight bag... as for the rest of the car... go to bunnings spend $200ish and build a tempory carport to store it under... spray any rust in the body just to stop it getting worse. Put about 15-20 mothballs in the interior under seats etc and mask or duct tape all doors keeps the moisture out... ohh and dont laugh at me for this... go to safe way and buy a couple of the soft tubes of cuddly laundry softener and chuck the SEALED tubes one in the boot and 2 in the car believe it or not they absorb moisture it really does work... i keep one in my austin as it doesnt get used more than about once every 3 months
thats my two cents... cheers dan

Cheers for ya help.
Yeah Im gona take off the turbo and wastegate this w.end. It does actually start and move but I have to have the hose running in the header tank coz the radiator is full of holes when I hit the front end and it has no thermo fans in either, battery is dead tho. Ok so I think ill just wd40 the engine and stick in some oil in the cylinders (does anyone know how much or what type of oil?) and also stick in some anti freeze in the cooling system, put it on stands and leave it. The interior should be fine if I put some things to stop moisture in. Would I need to turn the engine over by hand once in a while and would I need to put the plugs back in to stop it getting condensation? Thanks for the tips dan, and no to the other dan you cant have my auto lol! As I said im not too worried about anything else on the car apart from interior coz I might change it over, engine/accessories, auto and diff oh and wheels and tyres. |
