Can you imagine how much insurance will be to self drive in a world full of autonomous cars. Sadly, the day will come.
Insurance companies are already wrestling with this notion and how to stay relevant in the future. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk

It would take a very strong political leader to even entertain the idea of proposing a law to making driving illegal in Australia.
Most politicians prefer to get re-elected. |

But but it’s for your safety. The overlords will decided what you can and can’t do since society is happy for the government to do whatever they want.
If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever. |

Yeeeah, that's a big claim. Even as a teched myself I just don't see the technology matured enough in that timeframe. TL;DR - car makers are struggling with it.
I expect some form of autonomous driving over the next 20 years but outlawing completely? I just don't see it any time soon. Though by 2050 i couldn't care less.

Long before drivers become illegal, we’ll see automation assistance in slow moving traffic, where cars around each other will communicate and move together like bees or ants so everyone moves in turn and gets away from choke points quicker. That’s where AV will shine.

I can see a new subforum - autonomous vehicle hacks.
How-to manual conversion. How-to lane changing hack. How-to accelerator control Any other good ones? |

Well TF I won't be around then, or if I am I'm sitting in a chair looking out a window dribbling, wearing a nappy.

I consider this as being possible. Once driver-less cars prove safe and dependable, I'd wager the masses could care less about getting behind the wheel. Getting to the destination is what's important, not the experience.
As for us enthusiasts, perhaps we'll have to just enjoy watching old Bathurst videos. And maybe someone will have a track where we can hire out old cars and hoon to our hearts content. |
