It looks like this car is going to cost a lot!

I'd say around $55,000!

ROFL. Dude what are you smoking?

55g for the top of the range mondeo super sports version maybe. Drop that by around 20g and that more like the real cost.

Its supposed to compete with the Mazda6/Camry class. So... unless Mazda and Toyota and the like raise their prices to 55k, the Mondeo is not going to be anywhere close to that.

I've heard Mazda is scrapping the 6 Limited (ie. the cheapest) and the Classic will now be the bottom rung. If they don't drop the price, then these start at around $32k. So Ford should be looking at the base model being around this area, the Accord also starts around that price.

In all honesty I don't think Ford will be trying to attract Camry buyers, they attract a different type of buyer (ie. generally someone who only wants A->B transport and something that's cheaper and with Toyota reliability.) Handling, and other Euro qualities that I imagine Ford will be pushing, generally don't interest that type of buyer -IMHO.

I think the original quote was Mazda6/Camry class. Whilst I agree the Camry buyer is a little more pedestrian, that class (as defined by VFACTS) includes Mazda 6, Subaru Liberty, Honda Accord Euro, which exhibit the qualities you are speaking about. I think that the entry of Mondeo could well lift interest in this entire class of mid sized vehicles

I think starting price for base model will be under $30k, 2-3k more for Diesel and 40ish for the Turbo 5 cylinder. Autos will be the standard $2k more. Wagons will be a $1500-$2000 premium over sedan...

@ a Mid 30's price point the Mondeo will be right on the money for its market.

Roll on the TDI Wagon

I read somewhere, no idea where, but it may have been in the courier mail that they were bringing sedan and wagon, not the hatch.

If they drop the Falcon wagon it would be a golden opportunity to bring in the Mondeo wagon

That could be a mistake- for some reason more people seem to buy the Mazda 6's in hatch form. They even pay around $2000 extra for the them over the sedan- beats me why?! Have a look at the ratio of 6 sedans vs hatches next time you're out driving.

Its got the XR5 engine in it and on top of that, its got all the features you would see in a Honda Accord Euro.

The price the said was 22k GBP = 53k AUD, so I don't know what you're smoking!

Anyone seen a Holden Epica on the street? They look pretty awful in the ad.

Surely the Mondeo will bury it if it RRP's at a similar price.

WTF am I talking about! the Epica is a rebadged Daewoo. The Mondeo will have to be built in Safrica if it stands a chance to compete in a price conscious market.

Working prices out on those calculations, for the XR5, the XR5 would be closer to 45k than 35k, its hard to judge on UK spec, because of the amount of taxes over there...

Mondeo should start under 30k for base model, and then move upwards...
Probably top of the range will be mid 40's with the 5 cylinder Turbo and 6 speed auto... UK Spec Zetec would be similar to our base model i would imagine... hahaha

The inline 5 engine is NOT coming to Australia and using your pricing the focus CL would cost about 30g.

22K in the Uk is more like 44-46 here.

I saw the Epicas at the Motorshow. Not too bad looking outside, but the interior is just plain nasty and cheap looking IMHO. You can tell where they're made.

But people will still buy them because they're cheap!

Either way it doesnt really matter as you cant ever compare what something sells there to what it sells for here.

Look at the 5 Door ST versus the XR5
ST: £18,610
XR5: $35,990
on exchange rate: $45,199

The reason the cost doesnt reflect the exchange rate is the number of taxes on vehicles in the UK is crazy compared to here.

The top of range mondeo would equate to approximately low to mid 40's... It will undercut the Passat, model for model.

I currently have a Territory but work conditions have changed and I am now looking at diesel options. Do you think the that the Turbo Diesel wag no will come here???. My readings recently only state sedan and hatch. Do you think we will get the 2.2l ST HDI?

Does anyone know when they will be released down here, I read somewhere before Sydney Motorshow??

The mondeo WILL have the Turbo Deisel Engine. as its one of the Three engines that ford will release the mondeo with.

I dont see why the Wagon wouldnt be brought here. maybee not cause of the Falcon.

Still the Hatch will be very good... possibly a Wagon imitation.

XR8320 if you are looking for a car now I both think the mondeo is for you as they don't come out till the end of the year. Ford havn't even released spec levels.

From what I remember only the sedan will be coming to Australial, no liftback or estate model. Not sure about a 2.2L engine as both Uk and German sites only have 2L diesels(96kw and 103kw). If you ask me id say we will get the 2L petrol(107kw, 185nm), 2L(103kw, 320nm) diesel and 2.3L petrol (120kw).

Thanks for the info. Not to much to look for in diesel wagons. Peugot 307? maybe Jeep Compass or Cherokee
