Default Is Big Brother an accurate guage?

I'm curious as to whether Big Brother and the kinds of housemates and their ideals, mindsets and values are an accurate reflection of the majority of young people between the ages of 20 and 30?

I think that the whole "getting a cross section of the community" has gone out the window.
They are aiming for ratings now. I think every person in the house is single, and from what I've seen, a lot are habitual cheaters. This equals better Uncuts and more viewers.

I'm in the 20-30 age group and I can't relate with any of the blokes

I hardly think you would get a cross section of people, as most people with a normal brain would not even contemplate auditioning.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *breath* BWAHAHAHAHAHA

*gathers himself*

I also can't relate any of them to people I know and don;t know for that matter... The bad thing is that current teens will think that behaving how they do is normal and take after them... I'd love to be able to go 10 years into the future just so I could slap some sense into them.

I concur. It is shows and media jargon like this that are filling the minds of our younger generations with garbage, resulting in few morals, self-respect etc. In saying that though, I think Australia needs to wake up to itself before things get too far out of hand.

I've been working for 20-30 hours a week part-time for the past five years or so with kids as young as four and five, all the way through to young adults in their late 20s. It's becoming rare to come across polite, respectful individuals of this age who can think for themselves. That's only in my experience and opinion anyway.

I haven't watched it for any great length of time, but everytime I flick over there's someone ing about someone else, or complaining about something that would normally be inconsequential to the rest of us, or crying because they found out someone was gay or some .

If that's the average 20-30 year old, then thank I'm not average.

What we need is more celebrities with admirable qualities who are not only good role models for children, but for us all - not people who are famous for being, well, famous.

Vacuous idolatry is a guaranteed path to mediocrity and existential desolation.

Of course not. If you think its an accurate reflection, nearly every show has one, if not two gays. Following that logic, it would suggest that 1/12 of our population are openly gay, whereas I think the published statistic of openly gay people is much lower.

Realisticly these people in there are acting a certain way, they are all playing the game,$1,000,000.00 is a lot of money and even if you dont win that, look at the secondary prizes you get for just being in there.it,s a win win situation.Well for them anyway. In my opinion the guys arent all that hot.And it looks like it,s up to the girls again to start the s.... :

If these people are the future of Australia, we're in deep poo....

The show is a total waste of time.

They have said all along they have picked them because they're out there, up themselves and will create 'interesting' tv : It's garbage TV anyhow... Although listening to guys on Triple M and other comedians take the micky out of it is funny enough to keep it around for the sake of something to laugh at ;)

I thought it was higher? 10%. Could be wrong though...

All I know is that when ever I watch it I have to stop drooling at Crystal or my gf will start to notice the real reason why "we" watch it. You can throw the mum in for good measure too.

And no, I know no one like that, you see them, but yeah, most certainly dont have anything to do with them. They also usually drive lancers.

Also, when you thought it couldn't get any worse, there is a "guy" called Gaelan!!! FFS, what are his parents on?

I hope not. Most of the girls on there are scary. I would like to think that most chics are NOT like them. They give us girls a bad name. Maybe some of them are smart, but they come across oh so stupid. Perhaps stupid gets more ratings than smart... pretty much like Dan (Walkinshaw) said I guess.

Well I'm pretty much satisfied that it's what I thought. Those housemates represent an aberation in the profile of young people. Hand-picked and groomed to give 10 network and ratings machine the best bang for its buck. How long before even the most ardent viewers will be 'over it'.

Hahaha, if anyone podcasts - podcast 'Get This' by Tony Martin from Triple M (5th of May one) - they spend a while taking the micky out of Big Brother - it's a classic

It is actually 1/10 so they are fairly close.

I don't think BB is anywhere close to reality. Otherwise all guy would have 6 pack stomach and all girls would have implantes by 19

I work with teenagers and they tell me how fake the big brother house mates are. I guess we must remember that it is commercial television. The key word being commercial. the sponsors want to sell their product and to do this it is good if people watch.
