Hey guys.
Its been a while since I made a post, so I thought id have a bit of a winge. Over the past two weeks the EA has been running a little rough on startup, and throwing water out of the overflow etc, and we all know what that means. Anyhow, I removed the head after finding corrosion on cly #5 plug and found that the gasket was leaking in all cylinders besides 6. The most annoying part of this whole day was finding that the timing chain tesioners that i had so painfully replaced 90,000km ago with the last gasket change have crapped themselves. The tensioner side has broken, and the chain is quickly eating its way through whats left. Looks like ill be spending the rest of my week repairing that.. not happy. I have actually been having quite serious thoughts about selling the EA and moving away from the e series all together.. but I just cant seem to do it. On a lighter note, some of you may remember the project car i started a few months ago. I thought its about time i gave a little update. I have been a little strapped for time, however the car is now in color, with the interiour and suspension completed. I ended up having to do a heap of panel work on the thing, and did a dash swap which involved a heap of mods to the windscreen surround, steering column etc. All thats left to do now is to finish off the brakes, & wiring put in all the glass and build the motor. I got the head back the other week from my mate, it had some heavy port wok done to it. Cam is also ready to go. I picked up the turbo a little while ago. Its a recoed unit and should be able to supply around 20psi with out too much drama. The color is a little differnt to what I would normally go for, but hey, i thought id give kermet green a go Here she is just after I finished the final coat. http://www.fordforums.com.au/photos/...cat=500&page=1 With a bit of luck i'll be out on the track again soon in at least one of my cars! Take care! Simon |

Coming along nicely Simon, great stuff.
About the EA, 90,000 kms is a bit low for a head gasket. Be sure to have the underside of the head shaved when it comes off. |

Pardon my ignorance, but what is this project car of yours? And whta is it exactly that you're projecting towards? Pic looks very nice though!

Hey guys.
JT, I know its a little low for a gasket(normally lasts 100-120 on this car), but we cant exactly say the 3.9 has had it easy over the past few years ;) I'll have a good look at it tonight. I rang around for quotes today, looking at around $700 for an EL donk. I think I might just fix the guide.... freken. daveway, pull out ur spark plugs and have a look for corrosion on the metal. This gives you a good indication that there is water in the cylinder... ie excess pressure in the water system from cylinder. ned, its my first attempt at a full rebuild (Instead of just mods) from the ground up, doing everything myself (A stepping stone b4 my next car). It will be a dedicated drag car... hopefully with a fair bit of mumbo I need to keep up with all these turbo e series beasts getting around now. You guys are going nuts these days!! |

What engine is the Gem going to run? Should be quite an animal. I would love to have a high horsepower small car instead of the lard **** EB I have.
When I get money again I want to do a datsun ute with a turbo rotor! There was an awesome one at the drags on friday night. I cant get it out of my head! Im getting an EL engine from Just falcons in bayswater for $650 if its any help.

I picked up a 1.8L for it, with a 2.0L big valve head. They are a pretty low output engine stock, but its quite common to get 300HP out of the things with enough boost. A few of the guys running at calder are managing 300+ rwkw. It will be interesting to see how many of these engines I blow up
I might just have to stick in a turbo 4L if the 1.8 cant do the job! $650, is that just long motor, or all the bolt on's? Did u blow up the ED donk already? I think I might just dopen up the EA's head a little more and put it back together. I changed the chain guides last night. I was pretty pleased that I managed to get it done without dropping the sump. Too bad I lost my cam dial in tho :( (I fix next week). Last edited by Bass Crazy; 08-03-2005 at 09:55 AM. |

$900 complete, thats a little better then my prices. $1200 complete 3 months, or $950 1 month warranty.
No i did not have to drop the sump. The first time i did the guides I dropped the sump, but that was a dog of a job, did not want to go there. So managed to get it back on without doing that. Ended up being pretty quick to do. |
