Anyone here own a custom made chopper? I've never really been a bike person but I must admit i like the idea of owning one of these things. What sort of $$ are we talking here - $30-40K?
An example of what i'm talking about.. |

That example is wotrth about $120.000 you cant get much of a custom for under 60. to 70 Grand... also believe that bike is owned by a female..
just checked the magazine article on that bike its from PROZAC choppers and they put the Value at $130.000 and yes its owner is female Last edited by TATT2; 13-08-2006 at 05:32 PM. |

Its a damn fine bike but $120K is insane. My logic suggests that there definitely isn't $120K worth of hardware there, so i'm assuming that thing must've taken a good year to build..
And i thought my mates dad was nuts for spending $80K on a Titan : |

My dream is to have a chopper built one day.. got the design already done etc.. now just need to win lotto or find the infamous money tree!! :P
Love the stuff Exile Choppers do.. sure not as wild as the one above or your "OCC" stuff.. but I love the style.. black on silver/chrome, tough and stylish..

you can build a kit chopper for 35 if you put it together your self..
but the more custom parts you want made the more it costs! obviously if your handy with a welder and fabrication then it gets alot easier and cheaper! my mums bf has been tinkering with harleys and some of his mates too and has found via word of mouth that Bar Hoppers..morgan n wacker.. and rollies are the only honest shops he knows of in brisbane that wont walk with ur cash king pin choppers screwed over a fella he knows with a 250 wide *** kit. it didnt fit properly.. bottomed out.. they overtightened the axle bolt = screwed the bearings.. they fitted a 2nd hand exhaust isntead of a new one. they took 6 months to do a 1 day job they took 1.5 years to get and deliver his wheels he ordered. lots of problems from that place! the shop is owned and operated by the rebels so.. you get that i spose

Have you got any additional info on the chopper kits by any chance? $35K is a little more reasonable considering a decent Ducati or MV Augusta will set you back similar dollars. I suppose finding a decent workshop for a bike would be even more difficult than for a car because of the gang involvement.. |

if you wanted to build a custom chopper on a budget you could make a minichopper .. using a 110cc honda v twin engine..
VERY popular in america.. do a search for forums on it! and the best part is.. it fits in your boot!

Just had a quick look at the barhoppers site and found something very interesting..

Prozac were actually featured on The Car Show the other day. Seemed like a fairly good outfit.
They modify Harleys that people already own. Some examples they showed were no budget monsters and some 30-40k budget machines which were still very impressive. So if you already have a Harley that would probably be your best option. Just modify the crap out of it instead of building one from scratch. Im sure they would be able to do something for you with a budget of 20-40k. I would love to have a custom chopper. But I think ill try and get a nice muscle car or something first. And anything run by a bikie club should automatically make your be wary. Most are nice blokes and that but some are very shifty. Gotta keep your eyes out. |

A great mate of mine owns "Heavy Duty" magazine and we were only talking about this the other week. He travels to the states pretty regularly and tells me the yanks are in awe of Oz's abilities at building custom Harleys, with the likes of Prozac right up there with anything the yanks can come up with.
And yes, 100k and upwards is not unusual.

My dyno tuner's bought a custom chopper. I think it cost him $85,000. The bike is awesome, hand made parts and the bike it predominately polished alloy. I'm glad it's him polishing it and not me The bike has wider bloody rear wheel than I can fit in the XB's rear wheel arch!
