Default Gold Coast Living

Hi everyone i'm just after some advice,
My family and I are trying to decide if we should move from our country town, of 1161 people in which i've spend my whole life and be glad to leave, to the Gold Coast well burleigh actually. The part I need help on is what is the area like in regards to what places should we avoid living in etc. My dads been offered a better job, and we actually live about 8-9 hours south, so any help by people in the area will be a great help.

They are all great areas on the Coast and you shouldnt have a problem with any percides Nerang But even then i dont think its thats that bad.

Burliegh is beautiful Place and when we talk mum into getting a place at Currumbin one day we would have big property in paradise in my eyes.
MMM the hills of the Coast.

Hope thats a help.
good luck.

My folks live on the GC, well my Mum now as my Dad passed away a couple of years ago. But every time I go and visit, after about 2 or 3 days, I cant wait to get away from the rat race hole of a place. There are much nicer places to live, but if work is the reason that you are moving there, then I guess that there are worse places to be eg, MLB, SYD, BNE, ADL, Perth is not too bad a place. Just go with your eyes open. Cheers.

Just curiuos, what does the GC have to offer, every time I vist it seems to be just another rat race. I lived in Brissy before moving to the Alice, much slower life style out here. To me the only goog thing about the GC is the beaches..... with all the white pointers and all... :hihi:

Cheers.

The beaches, the theme parks, the nightlife, surfers is a great place to hang out. Seriously, you cant pin-point what a city has to offer. Its just a nice place to live. Sure going from the country to the city you would be shocked at the traffic and what not, but once you get used to it its fine.

I agree.. I really miss living on the Gold Coast.. It wasn't such a culture shock for me when I moved there as I had been visiting every year for about 5 years or so beforehand.. Lived there for about 5 years before moving to the South side of Brisbane (still wasn't too bad) and now on the Northside but itching to get back to the Southside or the Gold Coast :

It will be a culture shock.. there is lots of traffic and not many seem to understand how to tackle a roundabout.. which makes things interesting..

I think almost every suburb in almost every State has good and bad areas..

Burleigh is a nice area from memory.... Good luck to you and your family with the move and I hope it all goes well...

I wasn't trying to compare, just passing my experiences of the places. If I HAD to live in a city, Brisbane would be my first choice, I still have a house there in Ormiston. Next after that would be Cairns. Trust me, night clubs and theme parks loose their novelty value after a while. My next city after the Alice is moored in Darwin. In 5 to 8 years from now we not be tied to any one place, city or country.
Cheers.

Whats better about brisbane though?
Every place has their flaws, like the heat of cairns and darwin.
I guess its just personal preference.

Exactly, I love the heat. Much rather sweat than shiver. I lived in Brisbane because of its proximity to Archerfeild airport. Cleveland/Ormiston I reckon are unique places, cant think of too many places that are nicer to live. God bless the grandview pub.

i guess it's just personel preference, i've always lived in the country i don't know anything else, so if we do go it will be a shock but i'll learn. I may have it good but their are no girls my age here (they all left), no jobs in the I.T field which i will be getting into and no night life. Oh and by the way I have to travel an hour to go see a movie, eat macas, go to tafe (which is starting to bug me, well the travelling anyway).
I need a change from the quiet bickering little town when if you tell someone something the whole town knows by the afternoon and they ask you all sorts of questions. It's quite cossy in a way when you drive around you now everyone but i don't want to.
This town is my life, i've been here 19 years, and I need to move so hopefully it will happen, i will comme back one day but for know i need a change.
My Rant is over know thanks.

If you want to live near burleigh and as you say your from small town i suggest you look around Tallebudgerra Valley away from coast road but only 5 minute drive

Nice and peaceful out there with room to swing a cat

It does sound like you need a change. Good luck, but I bet one day you will end up back in the country......

Cheers.

EArulz I say do it mate and give it your best shot. For a young fella willing to see whats out in the big bad world - you gotta live sometime man and I reckon the Gold Coast is a pretty cool place to start!!!!

Outbackjack the kid was just asking for advice on it - you've just nailed him with negativity and YOUR own views/feelings about particular places to live. Then when someone suggests theme parks, etc - you have another crack about 'age'. Age is a state of mind mate - just coz you are old does that mean you cant enjoy theme parks??

Anyway - getting off topic. Go for it EArulz its an exciting time for you and your family. You should be commended for wanting to widen your horizons.

I'm actually going to migrate, up to Goldy myself.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but what's the job situation like up there? Also what's the rent like too?
