Hello. Recently I have discovered one of my original designs has been copied by somebody else. Its obvious they have re done it from scratch, but other than that its pretty much the same. Any lawyer type people here? Is there anything I can do?

i imagine it would be hard to argue that they did or didnt copy (even if its blatantly obvious) if they've done it from scratch (ie: not used your exact images/code) but just copied your layout.
got a link?

Off hand i cant remember the link as someone sent it to me on my work email. Anyway the guys argument is that if he modifys it by 10% then nothing can really be done. But it has definitely been done from scratch.

It would be hard with so many sites, that a site would not have similarities to another, if it is a copy ( or part there of ) consider it a compliment, but continue to stretch the boundries to newer and better designs.

there would have to be some copyright infringement otherwise its a long road ahead fighting them.....i guess you could contact the site owner and tell them to change layout..
if its just the way that your pics, navigation, etc etc is set out, but they havent actually used your pics, backgrounds, code then i dont think it counts..... you'll have to live with it

Could you post the links as I would like to see the 2 sites if possible....
But I think the best way to look at it is as Doc said... "consider it a compliment" |

Unless you have enormous amounts of money to throw away don't bother. The law is at best extremely vague and is a derivative of the Universal Golden Law.

I had some scummo copy my website, pictures and all that I had taken on my kitchen table of stuff so it was totally clear he was a ripper. So I posted on my homepage in huge letters 'NEWS: WEBSITE CONTENT STOLEN' with a link to his site.
Within 2 hours he deleted his site might be worth a try |

Hey mate, go on www.wipo.int
I think if you have evidence that you have made the site before him you will be able to get them off the net, but you also need to register with wipo...I think. It's a good site I used it to do a school assignment on this same thing. |
