DPF, no DPF, no straight answer

Just want to clear up some questions on the DPF you may or may not have on the TDCI Focus a few of us have here.

Go to Ford ETIS:

Chuck in your VIN.

Look under emissions, if your car has a DPF it should say for example, Stage 4 + DPF.

Ford ETIS has been wrong before, but on LVs, to identify a car with a DPF, the inlet manifold is different, in our case, if you don't have a DPF you should look like this:



Single big pipe going to the inlet manifold from the intercooler.

If its a DPF equipped car, there will be two smaller hoses going to the inlet manifold.

Yeah, it also seems its up in the air for LVs as well, anyone here got a TDCI Focus they can take a picture of the inlet manifold with the engine cover removed?

I'm particularly interested in LT/LV/LW as well as its the same engine.

Interesting, essentially the same except your intercooler pipe looks plastic, mine is rubber.

Also your Code RED intake seems to be a better fit than mine, mine hangs down lower.

Mine is a Nov 2010 Build LV MKII and the site says

Emission: Stage IV Emissions

...I'm guessing no DPF?

Should say + DPF after it if it does, but it might be wrong, to make sure the inlet manifold will only have one big pipe going to it, DPF equipped cars will have two smaller pipes apparently.

Also I'm in the Macedon Ranges too

Keep an eye out for the real dirty white Focus with the spot lights on it.

Pretty sure mine's got the one big pipe like yours and the other one pictured. Been looking for you, mine's silver and also extremely dirty, alas comes with the territory of living down the end of a 300m dirt driveway.

I'm in Carlsruhe, shop in both Kyneton and Woodend.

Is it not as easy as looking underneath your car and seeing if there sits a DPF after your cat?....or am I missing something?

I'm not sure if our models are exactly the same as the UK models but I found a post on another forum where someone posted that it should be stamped on the compliance plate. If you have a DPF fitted look at the VIN plate (right hand B-pillar) then read down the 8 fields on the left portion of the plate, at very bottom (8 down from top) - this box shows the Exhaust emission level code:

K > Stage V
S > 2000 EEC (Stage III)
V > Stage IV + Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
7 > Stage IV

If you read "7" your car is stage 4 without DPF

if you read "V" your car is stage IV with a DPF

if you read "S" its stage III, without a DPF

They have more diesel models available over there but I would imagine the codes would be the same

I'm not 100% certain but it could be a little difficult to just look for it under the car unless you can get it up on a hoist. Just found this which may or may not be of help in determining the location and DPF design on the Focus ( I assume the coloured component is the DPF)

Correct, the coloured section is the DPF, and the smaller unit before it, just after the motor is the CAT converter.

You mentioned earlier that yours says it has stage IV emissions then perhaps it is fitted with a DPF, if you have ever noticed a burning smell from the car at certain times then it quite possibly does have one because the smell they emit is quite strong :(
I was always under the impression that all new diesels manufactured after 2008 were meant to be fitted with a DPF

I guess the only way to find out is to either ask the dealer service dept. or get under the car and look, on second thoughts forget the dealer service dept. just get under the car and look for yourself most of them would be lucky if they knew what a DPF was

Yeah its a bit indecisive with Ford as I don't think they really know either because earlier here on the forum there was some talk about it and we come to no conclusion when a dealership was asked about it.

Cause my Focus is lowered I can't actually fit my jack underneath it, as at its lowest point its 140mm, its more for 4X4s.

I'm on the east side of the mountain, so you'd probably only see me between Lancefield and Sunbury on the roads.

Or the occasional trip to Woodend to Bourkies bakery for their awesome vanilla slice, or Holgate Brewery for their dark ale beef pie with chips.

Mines lowered too and I'm lucky to get my head under it but fortunately I don't have a DPF to look for so it doesn't bother me
